After all my worrying and my boring posts on here and it's over.......for now anyway.
When ever you do anything it never goes exactly to plan and yesterday was no different. The plan was to meet at the yard at 7 am and get to vets for 8 am, in theory this would have been great as it gave us plenty of time to feed, take the partition out of the trailer and load and by getting to the vets for 8 it meant she would have half an hour of chilling in a stable before the investingation began. Perfect.
My and OH get to the yard for 7, our transport wasn't there, so we fed, changed her rugs, put hay in the trailer blah blah blah, it got to 7.20 still no sign of friend, friend did not appear till 7.45 and trailer wasn't ready till 7.55
meaning even if she loads perfectly we are barely going to get there on time!
Luckily she went straight on, and we set off. About 10 mins in driver goes the wrong way and as we are on a duel carrigeway we have to go about 4 miles down before we can turn around again
Finally we got there and unloaded 15 mins late for actual appointment so 45 mins late for when we actually wanted to be there.
So got straight into the investigation - lunging on soft then hard, then flexions and trot up the I rode. I am so proud of my pony, though all of this she remained totally well behaved and not as worried as I'd thought she'd be. Finally he did the xrays which she was sedated for, it was my choice to have her sedated for this as I dont think she would have kept perfectly still for so long otherwise and I think it was a wise move as it was a bit creepy in there with all the lights off and the strange mechinary. X-rays were good I had a good look at them with the vets and all her joints look really clear apart from the joint between her fetlock and her hoof where there is a 1mm spur. Because of the spur he thinks that it maybe the really early signs of arthritis (sp) I think it's called degeneritive bone desease. So please anyone with experiences of this condition please tell me how your horse and ponies are getting on.
The vet gave her an injection of hyonate (sp) which is one the basicly lubes the joints, he is also coming out to the yard every week for the next for weeks to give her this same injection. He has also percrbied the oral suppliment cozequin which is meant to be really good, having said that it bloody should be for the price tag
We still dont know for definate what it is but these drugs wont do any harm he said I'll probably noticed that she is looser in her movement.
I am so proud of the way my pony behaved and how much she trusted me, when I put her in the stable at the vets while waiting for a lift home, she was quite happy munching on hay and looking at her neighbors lol
So, please any experiences of arthritis (sp) cozequin would be hugly appritiated
Sorry I've banged on for so long
