After a long break from horses (last sat on a horse 4 years ago and rode intermittently for the 4 years before that), I am getting back in the saddle with some lessons and surrounding myself in all things horse again.

Thought it was only right to say hello properly! 'First' riding lesson is booked for a week Tuesday whereby I will be assessed and told which group lessons I can join - I fear my muscles are going to be screaming in mortal agony on the Wednesday.

I'm actually quite nervous about getting back on a yard again - not the riding part strangely, just the whole politics/etiquette side of riding schools etc

Husband is very supportive of me getting back in to it....he bought me a copy of Your Horse whilst he did the shopping this morning....might be a different story when I'm trying to get him to buy an actual pony!

So....what do I need to know not to look like a complete and utter pleb? (or more of one, there will be a degree of idiocy going on) Horses still have 4 legs right?

I'm sure things haven't changed that much - you'll be pleased to know (most) horses still have four legs! Whilst you hear all the 'horror' stories about yard politics/bitchiness, I'm sure we're not all that bad!

Have a lovely time, then lots of stretches and a hot bath after your lesson!!

Hope it goes well for you. Not all yards are bitchy! Going during the week is good as you shouldn't have too many kids hanging around watching. May be worth getting some Radox Muscle bath stuff and industrial strength brufen for after!!!!

I'm going straight in the bath afterwards! Glad to hear horses still have four legs ;) Lesson is on a week day evening, so should be ok for spectators! It's meant to be a good school, and the woman I spoke to was really helpful - fingers crossed! Thanks girls
