I've just started riding my boy again after he's had over a year off.

I'm taking it slow and steady, just 10 - 15 mins each time but not sure how often I should ride him cos his back is bound to need to strengthen up again.

Can anyone help me?

Mine was off for about a year with a back problem. Started bringing him back to work in April, he had most of May off again due to various things. He is going out doing light hacking maybe three or four times a week for about an hour, just walking around. We are using the time to try and get him 'back together' and his legs organised! He prefers to go out with company as it helps him keep motivated.

I think if you are only doing 15 mins of walking you can ride every day, maybe even twice a day.

I would imagine you should be able to progress to 1/2 hour walking a day fairly soon, unless your boy has some specific problem and the vet has advised otherwise.

Must be great to be back in the saddle after a year!!

Been riding for past year on wee girl I bought to get my confidence back on so not been missing out!!

But just need to take it easy with my boy due to confidence issues with him.....he's an ex-racer. He is perfectly healthy and has no underlying issues.

Just don't want to blow it with him by riding too much too soon.
