just got back from the yard as had reports from daughter that soph was playing up with nicola. She was shooting off when asked to trot and bucking. Taylor got on her and said she was holding her head really high and hollowing her back and doing crab impressions when asked to go forward. She wouldnt entertain a right bend (her bad rein anyway ) and was worse on the left. Soph can be a little naughty when the mood takes her but it doesnt involve bucking. I also noticed she wasn't tracking up either. Had her saddle checked and teeth done a couple of months ago. I rode her wednesday and the only thing we did different was a lot more trotting the we normally do and she was fine at the end of that. She wasnt ridden yesterday and then we had this today so im assuming she either aches from weds , has pulled something or has been for a hooley round the field and done something. Anybody got any ideas?

soph is exactly the same hadfos, doesnt flinch when you touch her back etc but she really must be hurting as she is one of these that will work through pain. Bless her she still tried tonight but knew something was up as her behaviour was just so out of character.

Ottinmeg - trot her on a smallish circle on flat concrete if you can, that will show up if her back is sore or not

she may find it harder on one rein or take some lame steps etc. if the back is a problem.

hope you find out what is causing the probs:D

eta: did you check nummnah/girth for anything sharp/pointy stuck in it? this could also be a reason for sudden change.

i will try that thanks, yep i did check numnah/girth etc as i have a seat saver which i noticed had come undone the other day so my first thought was it was that but it was done up and couldn't feel anything under the saddle etc.

Could it be that he has put on a little weight with the good grass? I ask as my girl insists that her saddle, which is a good fit, is tight when she has been overstuffing herself. If he is fine when not saddled ,but plays up when saddled this could be it.
