My now rising 5 yo was backed end of last year but only ridden lightly a handful of times before I realised he was sore in his back. He hasn't been ridden since early December now, has had a lameness work up, spinal xrays which revealed nothing & had chiropractic & physio work which hasn't helped. I'm doing stretches, long reining,& in hand groundwork but feel nothing has changed in 6mths. He is homebred & not insured. I'm feeling so low wondering if I will ever get him in work again. Any ideas? It seems purely muscular pain spasm but I don't know why he hasn't improved. Should I just turn him away for a year?

I have just been through this with my mare, in the end I was so desperate to help her I went to Donna Blinman (osteopath and holistic vet)
She worked with her and identified liver and kidney pain which was treated with acupressure.

I spent an absolute fortune of all sorts of therapy but could not get to the bottom of this mysterious back pain.

Muscular pain always shouts PSSM at me - particularly if it becomes obvious not long after backing.

What breed is your horse?

The Horseback vet might be worth a try. He wont treat your horse if he cant help, and hes treated a lot of write off horses and got them back working. He did an amazing job with mine :)
