Background- my horse has seen various recommended back people over the six years I've owned him. He's always had a sensitive back so I've had it done every 6 months.
Opinions have ranged from "bit sore needs a few adjustments etc to its just ex racer wear and tear" all have treated him and advised follow ups as and when....
Until fairly recently where a new to him but I've used on other horses chiro refused to treat him as she felt he had deeper seated problems than any routine treatment could fix and asked for X-rays.
X-rays showed up a severe wither injury- probably due to rearing and breaking them and then not being treated properly in racing (certainly not done since I had him) also milder Ks under the saddle.
None of the other 4 chiros used over the 6 yrs picked up on this.
The lady that did has now moved away so I need someone new :( I now don't really trust anyone much tbh!
Would it be wrong of me to just try a few not say anything and stick with the one that picks up his issues? What would you do? Bearing in mind all previous back ppl have been qualified and highly recommended by people who's opinions I trust.
Bit stuck!

Any properly qualified person will be asking your vet before treating so the issues will be known when they come out anyway, any one not going through the vet first should not be allowed near your horse.

This is my concern. Tbh I don't think too much more damage can be done! A big issue for me though is these previous people made out they had sorted him!
I will ask my vet but am sure I asked for a reco before and they said they were unable to give one

They did ask but it was just a case of me calling the vet and them saying yes that's fine.

They should really get proper consent from the vet and history in the case of a horse that has had issues, if anything went wrong following treatment they may find their insurance is void.

The most recent one is the only one to have ever spoken personally to my vet and this was after she'd attempted to treat him to explain her concerns- Other than that i know its something they are supposed to do but previous to this i wasnt aware there was a real problem and my vet had only ever seen him for routine stuff and non back related injuries so a over the phone permission seemed to suit.

When they are just treating as routine, with no issues the quick call may be fine but now you know there is something going on I think you should really make sure the physio is in the picture so they can do the best job for your horse, ask for recommendations find one that wants to know how they can help rather than just comes and goes through the motions, the last one you had obviously had the best feel, it's a shame they can no longer do him.

I would speak to the person that found this and ask for a recomendation.

You want to use her but cant as she has moved so should be willing to help find a replcement.

Also your vets should know of a good one that they trust.

To add they alawys need to check with your vet first.

I too have tried 5 different 'back people' over the last 3 years. Only the last one I would use again. It really is a mine field. Even the one my vet recommended I didn't think much of and she was incredibly expensive. Can the lady that picked up on the problem hand you over to someone else that she trusts? I would talk to her and see who she recommends.

It depends on what type of person you are using, and how sore/stiff the horse it at the time they are being treated if they will pick up on anything.

One of my previous horses started playing up under saddle. Good chiro and physio had a look and couldnt find anything wrong. It turned out she had bad kissing spines. They are not vets, and cannot diagnose anything.

My horse had the worse case of KS my vet had ever seen, yet he had been seen by a Mctimmony chiro and a sports therapist and they both said his back was fine. Even my vet took a lot of persuading from me to xray his back. So I would say that these problems are not easy for people to pick up or my back people and vet (at the time) are just not very good!
