Following on from my earlier thread, I want to get my horses back checked over.

I've had a look through several adverts and i'm totally baffled as to who to get out.

Can anyone shed any light please?

Call your vet and ask for their recommendation. By law they have to have your vets permission to treat anyway.

You'll rule out all the charlatons that why...

Had a quick look at post. Horse is bronking when mounted right? It could well be a back problem, but a vet could tell if it was a sore back and then refer you on...

Could you not speak to vet again and say you'd like a back person to look at it first? See if you can get them agree (you have to really, as like I said before it is against the law for any "back person" to treat a horse without veterinary permission). Otherwise you have to have the vet out first really.

if your vet thinks your horse is lame then yes a lameness exam is the way forwards if you didn't want to follow vets advice why did you get them to see your horse. Most back problems are secondary to lameness.

I wouldn't agree that MOST back problems are secondary to lameness... They can be. there can also be plenty of slips in the field.. IME that is more common. I have my horses checked every 4 months for 7 years and that is all I have ever had.

OP, you need to ring your vet again and try and persuade them to let you have a back person out first. Otherwise, you'll have to get the vet out to prove it isn't lameness and then get a referal on if her back is sore.

sorry should have clariffied i meant on going back issues are commonly associated with lamness offten bilateral hock or suspesory ligement problems go hand in hand with a back problem. If its just general tightness which is resolved with a session or two of physio then it is unlikley to be more than that. But that is why a vet should see the horse first to rule out lameness induced back problem

My vet reckons i need him out to have a lameness test done.

Any physio worth their salt won't come out to your horse if your vet has already advised he visits and you are ignoring this advice. You will probably also invalidate your insurance.

IME back problems are actually just a manifestation of lameness / leg problems. Mine had "back problems" which were in fact caused by hock spavins.

it can also work the other way round though... back problems CAN lead to a horse showing lameness.

OP get your vet to come look with their own eyes and then advise. good luck! x
