Back problem?

My horse has started to become very nappy recently and I have had his teeth checked and they were fine so now I want to get his back checked but I am not sure who you ask about this? Silly question I know, but I am a novice owner. Is it the vet or do you look for a chiropractor or someone similar? When they check his back what will they do? Will he need to be ridden or is that just when his saddle is checked (arranging for that too)?

Grateful for any advice on which specialist to contact re backs and where to find them.

You will need to get your vets permission to have a chiropracter or physio look at your horse. Often this is done over the phone as a courtesy and I expect your vet will be able to recommend someone locally who is suitably qqualified. As to what happens it really depends on the symptoms the horse is displaying. They may just want to see him walked and trotted in hand but it could be that being ridden would be helpful for them to make a judgement ont he type of treatment given.

Give the vet a call first and take it from there, then speak to the physio/chiro about what sort of thing you should expect and the costs involved.

I have my horses backs checked once a year I got a number out of the local paper he was qualified and very good. I was on a yard that used to show all over america and they agreed that once a year you should have there backs checked though there is only very few people I know who do this.
