My boy seems to be having a problem with his back end, wondered if anyone else has had as similar problem and if so what they have done????

For the last few weeks his back end seems to give way, problem is, as I feel it I can’t actually pin point where it is happening or even what is happening – it could be back or leg !!
Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t completely give way, if it did I wouldn’t get on him at all, more like he has a bit of a twinge but recovers straight away. I have had his back checked a couple of times and nothing there, he has had Shiatsu where she has been working on his muscles (bicep and semi….whatever it is called) as he seems to be quite tight. He does seem to loosen up with work and seems to happen more when walking steadily, as soon as we get to the exciting parts of the hack he goes into jogging and bucking mode and funnily enough it doesn’t seem to happen.

I am confident there is no pain for him, as trust me if he was in pain I would not stand a chance, he is quite good at getting his message across. Going to give him another couple of weeks to see if he continues to improve and if not get the vet out.

Thanks

Have you thought maybe sticky stifles? A friends horse has it and I guess thats similar to what you are describing  And it improves with work also...

I would get the vet out, Better to know than to ignore it and keep riding and possibly making the problem worse?

If the back end is giving way you dont want to be waiting a couple of weeks to get the vet out!

It's something that needs a vet first imo, & if necessary a vet recommended physio. Tbh I wouldn't be riding myself till a vet has been.

Just in case anyone came back to this looking for answers, the ginger one has been diagnosed with mild arthritis in his hock. It is that mild it explains why the issue came and went.
