Hi
i have hurt my back again !
it is lower back pain cause by horses in general , riding , falling off , lifting heavy objects , mucking out etc etc
i upset it on sunday lifting water buckets and its really not happy this time :(

i'm thinking of getting something like this
http://www.rideaway.co.uk/prolite-back-support?var=129618&gclid=CO2OjIXLncECFRMatAodHngAiQ

has anyone tried anything like this for support , obviously i'm resting it as much as possible atm while it is sore but for general support around the yard , while ridding etc to prevent more problems ?

I have used a Prolite for my back for years on and off. I use it for when I *should* rest but cannot. I only wear it for short lengths of time so I do not get reliant on it.

Plus points, it keeps my back warm in winter, and it makes my tummy look smaller;):D

Edited to say - get it checked out too .......

google lumbar support on amazon- I got one for about 10. I am trying to build my core up so it doesn't keep happening, but physio has given me some good stretches to help! Also depends where is sore, but have found a foam roller a lifesaver as get really tight gluteus (bum muscles) and that often sets my back off!! good luck its horrid.....

yes you should get it checked out- suffered mine for ages but after an mri I have prolapsed disks, so at least treatment is specific.... If it keeps happening there is a problem somewhere (be it posture/damage or lack of core)....

Pilates! increasing core strength (and remembering to use correct muscles) better than any external support long term. Take it from an old'un.

My partner Mark, uses one very similar when he is feeling tender. He plays golf and it does help. He also wears it to work as driving can set off his back.

Do get yourself checked out, a sports massage might help, again Mark does this once a month to keep him supple.

I use the prolite support after injuring my back in a fall yrs ago. Really helps, I forgot it sometimes and I can really tell the difference.

I bought a back support from Boots - cheaper than Prolite one - I wear it when I feel the need - on the ground and riding. I do have the support the hospital made me when I broke my back but it has metal supports which dig into me hence finding the Boots one.

A friend posted that Newcastle College are doing sports massages for £5 on a Monday and Wednesday night might help things Angelish.

I see my Osteopath once a month and that keeps me supple. Learn too do some stretches , which again I do every morning. I also go to my Health Club and swim regularly afterwards going and sitting in the spar.

I need to be fit to a) look after my elderly Mum and b) ride my horses for long distances (Endurance).

I do have a back belt (from Boots) if I really need it.

hi sorry about the delay in answering iv'e had internet troubles :(
thanks very much, i tried boots today but they only have them in the larger stores so ill try and tie that in with a trip across to newcastle collage , thanks vodkagirly :)

its frustrating as its been fine all year while iv'e been galloping about and jumping things , i feel the fittest now that iv'e been in a while so it should be really quite strong atm
i am guilty of racing round picking heavy things up without thinking about my back though so will be more careful in future , i'm hoping that wearing a support will remind me to use my core or bend my knees when lifting things :o

i did it on sunday and its very nearly back to normal now so if it happens again or its not better by monday i will go see someone about it
thanks again :)
