Blimey, Sunday when I had a lesson my instructor kept having to tell me to put my heels down. Now I do consider myself to be a half decent rider and don't ever usually get told to change something about me, usually just things to do to help the horse along etc, so I thought it was odd and wondered if when cleaning saddle had put stirrups down a hole by mistake.

Didn't think any more of it until I was schooling yesterday and felt my heels right up again - this time in the other saddle! So I decided to pop stirrups up as I wasn't my main concern, it was the horse. It was so weird, they were too short, so in exasperation I took my own stirrups away and did some trot work without them.

I found out my legs are actually at least 3 inches longer than I thought, and that my rimfrost riders fall off if I relax my foot!!!??

When I took my stirrups back, at original length we carried on as if no problem, leg in correct position once more - I obviously just needed to go back to basics for some reason?!

Any one else ever needed to go back to basics when you really weren't expecting it?

Creme egg for getting this far!

I read the whole post and quite frankly dont care about your heels, but where is my creme egg?

dammit now I am going to have to go and buy one. Well when my horse's legs buckle under the strain of lugging me around I will be putting the blame on you!

All the time go back to basics with my riding, you can't tell when naughty habits creep in - like eating too many cream eggs until you feel sick

I want an egg too please

I have days (and weeks/months!) when I don't seem to be able to ride at all!

Also, do you always ride in your Rimfrost riders? Mine are lovely and cosy and warm, but they're not particularly good for my leg position!

Yep, every time someone films/photographs me and I see how rubbish I look. Unfortunately on my current horse crossing stirrups would be asking to die, you can't even do up the girth once you're on!

right then easter egg munchers, make your own....
Creme egg

sar1 - yes, I always do ride in them without fail which is why they are now falling apart! I am going to sob my heart out come summer and its too hot for them, don't know what to wear instead! They used to feel dead clumsy and awkward but I'm used to them now.

Are you scrunching up your toes, which might in turn be raising your heels? Esp if your boots are falling off!
Amazing how you don't seem to realise you're doing this - I've been guilty lots of times..
Oo oo - do I get a creme egg for coming up with a suggestion?
LOL
