anyone got experience with their insurance paying for back treatment (touch point therapy)? we are in for a long series of treatments but it is getting pricey... however, I have not run this by vet yet, - does insurance company normally pay out for this sort of thing?

Any "alternative" treatment, complimentary medicine, snake oil or other such quackery that is undertaken without the express permission of your vet will almost certainly not be covered by your insurance policy. Having started "treatment" before contacting your vet the therapist has probably broken the law. I suppose it depends how deep your pockets are.

No.

If the Vet felt that a qualified physiotherapist of chiropractor might benifit the horse then the insurance might pay for that. But only on the recomendation of a Vet and after a full medical investigation (by which time your insurance cover will probably be all used up.)

If you started the back treatment without contacting your Vet first for a diagnosis then you will not be covered and you sometimes find they will permanently exclude the back and all soft tissues relating to the back for this reason, nor will they pay up on any further treatment for the same problem should you then decide to ask you Vet to have a look secondary to you initiating treatment without the Vets say so. Its rather complex and they will get out of paying if they can.

I've had physio paid for by insurance no problem, the vet just wrote on the form, 'I recommend physio.' Job done
