Backing 5yo Irish Cob

I now have a lovely light we'll fitting saddle for my tank of a cob. She lunges nicely, long reins we'll, both in full tack. She's seen cars, tractors, dogs, poles, cones, flapping plastic and ponies charging about in their fields as we've walked past. Shes been stood above, lent over, and sat on bare back. She's 14.1hh and solid. I'm 5ft 2in and 10 stone 7lbs. What else do I need to do before I get on and continue her education?

At 5 I think I would hop on and start hacking! Nicer and easier than lots of circles, as long as she understands the basics of brakes and steering.

We hack for miles all over our farm on the long reins, I've lost almost 2 stone doing this.

She's got good breaks and steering, very responsive to my voice. She's being shod tomorrow so might lunge then hop on after. Will let you know how it goes

Just because she's been very good, take it just a little steady with her before hacking out and have someone walking beside you for a little way.

I will take her in the school and have my friend with me. I don't to rush it now and screw our hard work up.
