Hello

When you get a horse in for backing/breaking, what do you prefer the horse to be able to do?

I'm guessing manners and basics are obvious - handle horse all over, groom all over etc.

i.e.
- do you expect horse to have had bridle/saddle on?
- do you expect horse to have been lunged at all?

For a horse that's had basic education but no bridle/saddle on/lunged etc, how long approx. would you expect, before you have horse walking/trotting with rider (obviously I know this can vary)?

Just trying to have some vague stats in head, so I don't look stupid when calling regarding sending 5yr old away.

IF you've sent your horse away, I'd be interested to hear what stage your horse was at/how long it took/rough price etc?

Thanks x

It's good if they have worn tack & been lunged, but like anything it depends how well. I'd rather do one unspoilt than one where minor mistakes have occurred. Really don't mind as long as the owners truthful. Assuming its well handled & had a bit in, I would say 6weeks is average. Some can take 3weeks, others 12.

I would in many ways prefer to have less done with them, just good general handling, able to be led and tied up but not lunged or long reined, if they have worn rugs that is helpful.
Most take around 6 weeks to be walking, trotting and cantering and hacking out quietly, if they have been well lunged/ longreined by a competent person this may take less time.
