...To tell what they will be like under saddle from how they on the ground, and how they behave in the field ??

Can you spot the easy ones to back ?

Just interested, as have 2 x 3 year olds to back next year. ( wont be me, i'm not good enough )

Weve had a few youngsters over the years and while all horses are different, if they take things in their stride on the ground thats what they tend to do ridden. My hubbys mare is stroppy and moody, and shes like that to ride as well.

My gelding is 7 now and hes never put a foot out of place, incredibly easy to back, lovely to ride...complete knob in the field, seriously, he pulls off moves that I didnt think were physically possible :o

well they are both good on the ground, and easy to deal with. The mare takes everything in her stride, the gelding, he takes a bit of time to get used to new things. Both mad as box of frogs in the field.

Guess i will know next year, when the process starts

Mine's high spirited and temperamental to handle on the ground but was so easy to work with during her backing process and continues to be amazingly easy under saddle. Mind you, she's five this year so I'm waiting for her to turn into a monster to ride anytime soon! :D
