I was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with an over excitable gelding (not sure if he is a rig this is being looked into) mounting, running and biting their mares and then they have come in stiff and sore?
We recently got a new horse at the yard and as soon as he got in there started herding the mares and acting very stallion like but wasn’t to much of a problem at first. However he then started mounting one mare and unfortunately she did not seem to mind (my other mare told him where to go!), he became very protective of her and she was covered in bites where he had been moving here around. This morning I came down and she seems very stiff and sore (not lame, just looks like its over her back) I think he had been running her around and more likely more mounting. The gelding in question has now been moved. I have gave my mare some bute and this evening she seems a lot better and luckily I have got the physio coming next week anyway and just going to rest her over the weekend and hopefully she will be ok.
I just wondering if anybody else had had this before (not the rig prob, just the mare being a bit sore after his antics) or even after they actually had their mare covered?

It's not at all uncommon for a mare to suffer a bit of a sore back after being mounted/covered - particularly by a clumsy idiot who doesn't know his job: particularly if the horse in question is shod! It is usually bruising from the front feet scrabbling around, particularly around the wither or either side of the spine in the saddle area.
