Does anyone else suffer from a bad back?

Mine has 'gone' for the 2nd time in as many weeks. I'm pretty certain its muscular but have booked an appointment with an osteopath tomorrow.

I have used my equissage on myself and have gone for sports massage. I just wondered if anyone had anytips to help relieve pain - I have cuurrently emptied all the shops in Shropshire of Ibuprofen but feel that perhaps this is not the answer!!!

i went to osteos for years, but it was mctimoney chiropracty which got me to the point (touch wood) where i need very occasional treatment now. if it does 'go' again, i wear a prolite relief pad for a day or two to give it a lot of heat and support, which works... so far...
best of luck!

Yup me...and its even worse since last weekend when she had me of lol. Mines usually lower back but right now its in the middle and hurts to even walk...i need to book an appointment myself

I fell off doing XC once and landed on the bottom end of my body protector around the coccyx. Ever since then I have to be really careful how I lift things or try not to jar it otherwise I end up walking like I've had an accident as it goes into spasm. The only thing I have found is to lie flat out and rest!

If I feel a twinge coming on I also ride in a prolite back support to make sure I don't slouch.

I slipped a disk about 6 years ago and spent the next 2 years in various stages of 'crippleness' and pain. It got to the extent that I couldn't ride except in walk and even then that was only if I could manage to get on as even from a mounting block I couldn't left my left leg high enough to go in the stirrup. I was going to see an oesteopath when it got bad. I'd have treatment, be okay for a few weeks then progressively go downhill again. It wasn't a cure by any means and I was barely manging the problem.

The turning point for me was when I bumped into my old boss who also suffered from a bad back and he told me he had been 'cured'. Apparently he had gone to a Sports Injury Physiotherapist, had a coUple of sessions and his back was now as good as new.

I was highly sceptical but I was willing to try anything by this point. I went to see this guy, I had three sessions with him and he gave me some exercises to do at home and I can honestly say I haven't looked back (no pun intended).

I do have the odd times when I have a bit of a niggle in my lower back, normally if I've been humping bags of feed around or been doing a lot of sitting trot work. But if I go home do my stretches the next day I'm as right as rain.

I'm sure sports injury physiotherapy doesn;t work for everyone but for me it's been a God send.

I go to a Chiropractor as thre are times I can't even stand up. My bak hasn't hurt for a couple of years but since I've started riding again I've felt it. I know that it is riding that sets it off but what can you do?

My sisters see a Sports Massage lady and really rate her.

You just need to try a few different people, but if you don't see some sort of relief pretty quick - move on to the next one.

I get muscle spasms in my back, due to an old injury.,very painful, very fustrating too.. I found a HM seat saver definately helped.. but last year with help from OH, treated myself to a reasonably priced dressage saddle with flair, (stuffing taken out and replaced with panels filled with air - mine was made by Paul Jones).. What a difference, I even hack in it.. It mite be an idea to try a saddle with flair off a friend first or anyone you know has one.. But it's definately worth a try.. (What type of horse you have, and it's way of going can make a difference too..but now were doing extreme

lol..) Good luck, hope you get "sorted..

i did my lower back when i was lambing.
so much pain that i sat on the couch and was in so much pain that i couldnt get up and had to stay there until my mum came in 4 hours later and phoned an ambulance. Was stuck in bed for 2 weeks!
it then proceded to give me hell for about 3 months untill i had a car crash, then it completely died on me and i was once again taken to hospital in an ambulance because of my back!
For about 8 months later i couldnt move my right shoulder without pain shooting up and down my back and my neck always hurt. so i went to see a physio and whilst she sorted my shoulder out briefly it took 11 weeks and the pain came back and she couldnt help my neck.
In desparation i went to a mctimoney chiro lady and she sorted it all out so far in only one session. i think i might go back for my neck one more time but ive had no more problems with my shoulder and the pain shooting up and down my spine is gone as is the lower back pain!

Might sound silly but what stirrup irons do you use? I used to suffer (mainly after jumping but sometimes after flat work) with terrible back pain until changed my stirrup irons to the sprenger irons & WOW what a difference. the springs in the irons absorb the shock and it has saved my back big time. I now can not ride without them (well i can but end up in major pain)
