Bad barefoot day! Thoughts please, video attached.

Hi Jess, we've pm'd before. Looked at the video and thought your beautiful horse was landing heel first personally! My horse as you may or may not remember had shoes off 6mths ago and isnt moving nearly as well as yours although he is a much happier person so I felt quite envious when I watched! I also think I may know your trimmer and if it is who I think it is, he is an incredibly decent, honest and straightforward person who will always try to help and advise, I think you should stick to your guns as I can't understand why your vet is bullying you, I don't think it's very professional to treat a client like that. As an aside I use Diane Danes, she is very busy but good, I also use Tess Dorrington who is a good and properly qualified Chiro, both have treated Ryan over the years and been excellent if you want contact numbers to ask any questions please pm me and I'll be happy to help. Good luck, to me, your horse looks very happy and healthy!

Yes, very good idea! Does she cover essex and do you have contact number at all? Thanks

Yes she does... Diane's number is 07816 830028. Your horse maybe locked up muscle wise and she will help to release that muscle memory and give you some stretches. Best to do muscle bodywork before chiro. She will also tell you if you need a chiro.

I had a horse with lots of muscle tightness issues which she sorted for me.

Brilliant thank you!! I have been trying to find tge right physio/chiro for both horses for ages. This is perfect. Beth i do remember you and hope your ok. Good news your horse is doing well. Lovely to hear
Yes i think you speak of my trimmer thisis exactly how i would describe him! Lovely guy! I am very disappointed in the general suspicion around barefoot and trimmers. The things i see done to horses on a daily basis and im being harrassed. Amazing. Never mind onwards ee go!

The only problem is there is no advice on how to improve the medio lateral balance. Its a shame , but I can understand that rockley dont just want to hand over their methods. Does anyone have any clue how they would go about getting a horse to land square and heel first if it doesnt do so already?? Is it maybe something that will improve with development and comfort?
......

Frustratingly, I have asked my vet to refer me to rockley but he still hasnt done so!! Cant go until he does, so in the meantime im doing my own thing, just need to find out how they do the "magic" lol

There's no magic formula or anything to protect, just a ideal environment and letting the horse do the work. It's the environment that you can struggle to provide at home, that and finding the time get the miles on the feet.

If you did want to send your horse, Nic can talk to the vet direct about what they do so worth contacting her. If you don't get a reply, resend as it's probably the dodgy Exmoor internet which misbehaves regularly.

Having said that, it does look like you're making good progress by yourself, just really tough you're not getting the support you deserve.

Thank you criso. I have emailed nic a few times and embarassingly my vet still hasnt contacted her to refer me. Again on monday he promused to speak to her. I told him if he was suspicious of the whole regime she would be able to answer better than i could. I wanted him to go but in the meantime we have cracked on iurselves which is just as well! I am struggling with environment now as turnout is very restricted niw and my horse is eating too rich haylage.I have tried to get hay from yo fir some of the day which i will soak. He and other hirses have runny bums from it. I am happy to do the mileage but not sure how mych is enough or too much. When riding i cant see how hes loading all the time. Now my vet told ne not to walk him on road until his foot is balanced and ge doesnt land laterally! He also said no menage cos its turning. No horsewalker same reason. No walking in gravel carpark again turning and we have no turnout! Does that mean ges back on boxrest tgen? Needless to say i am continuing to ride in menage and road a little where he is comfortable as i have been doing. Now there is no turnout i really need to increase roadwork but of course im afraid im doing him harm after whats been said. Its a tough lonely place but ill jyst have to figure it out. I guess hell tell me if he is sore. I wonder though what nic could do to change hus lateral heavy landing? Maybe if i ever get there we mught get him landing flat! I have taken pics of palmar aspect and solar views. Ill upload later.

Here are his recent solar and palmar views. White foot is the RF and black LF. The right is the one landing lateral heavy sometimes. However from the palmar view I think it looks well balanced, which is interesting. Solar maybe a little less so but not terribly unsymmetrical?? What do you think?

In the last pic you can see both feet and the old hoof at the bottom which is far less connected. Im not sure what the vet meant by flare really on the white foot apart from this old hoof which still needs to grow out. We have a good 3/4 new hoof capsule though so another month or so should see the whole new hoof I hope.
