As requested Anon1997. As you can see her levels are/were very high. I tried to sneak milk thistle into her feed and she is now refusing to eat it!
Thank you for this, my boys numbers are different because he is now presenting anemia/low rbc and he had high SAA. I’m guessing you haven’t really much idea what’s causing it? My vets main concern was taking him off the hay as soon as possible but he isn’t sure if it’s something else.

Have you tried her on L94 out of curiosity? I have been putting milk thistle into the syringe with his iron supplement but I don’t think it’s made much difference so far. Started the L94 a couple of days ago so hoping we may see some improvement with that. So hard when they’re fussy about getting the supplements in, I tell my boy daily “I am only doing this to help you” as he looks at me in disgust!!

So sorry to read your poor man isn't doing so well.

My friends horse had the same and went off her feed completely was a nightmare. I don't blame her we were syringing so much into her mouth it was awful. She is currently on the L94 liquid and once the course has finished are running her bloods again to see what she needs next. To get any meds into her i bought her a lick mat, mash a banana up into it with her meds and a bit of baby food and she loves it. Made life so much more simple. As she wouldn't even eat her mash she became so suspicious. I hope you get it sorted. 🤞

Thank you! Thankfully he is back eating his feed now and loves the spillers mash, so I have decided to not risk contaminating it and do the supplements separately. He looks bright whilst he is on painkillers but aware the problem is still present just being masked. I hope your friends horse also gets better, did she have similar blood issues?

Thats what we did, which is why we got the lick mat for her. She loves her mash and it was so sad when she didn't want to eat her feed. She has metabolic issiues which have been so hard to get under control. We are keeping everything crossed that with the L94 and her diet and work she will be back to normal very soon.

No not tried L94. Cannot syringe anything into her, can’t even get a wormer in her!! Can’t believe a 10 hand pony could be so difficult!! She did have a liver supplement from the vet but made no difference, got one bottle in her and then she refused to eat any more.

Hope it works for you though

I'm so sorry to read that. There's a special level of hurt when they were a childhood friend. Take care.

Feeding suggestion - I used to look after a pony who had only 4 teeth and she used to have to have feeds like soup but we used to give her a few handfuls of mix in it to make it more palatable.

Thank you all for the kind words.

If anyone knows any way to fix my extremely broken heart please send your advice my way. I feel like I’ve lost a limb and I don’t know how my life is going to look without him. The trauma of what happened is just too much and keeps going round and round in my head.

I won’t be getting another horse, I’ve always said I didn’t want any other but my Joe. My mum has her boy (pictured above) who I can fuss and care for, but of course it’s not the same and my heart is just shattered into a million pieces.

He truly was the best pony who gave me everything I could’ve wanted and more and I am so grateful he made me happy for so many years. I would’ve done anything to save him.

I could have written these exact same words a couple of years ago when I lost my pony. I'm still figuring out how to shape my life without him but am coping much better than I was. I don't think there is a magic way to erase grief, you just have to endure it. The intense feelings will die down eventually.

The Blue Cross offer support with pet loss - there's a chat line if you need someone to talk to, or if you're struggling to speak about it, they also have a live chat, and a facebook support group too.
The BHS has 'Friends at the End', another support network specifically for loss of a horse or pony.

I’m wondering if anyone can help me in my desperate attempt to save my beautiful grey pony who I have loved since I was 12.
I was away on holiday 3 weeks ago and came back to ride him and he was extremely slow and not his usual self. When I turned him out that evening he was struggling to lean down to graze and looked a bit weak, so I called the vet and stayed with him for an hour and he managed to graze and the vet came the next day.
We have since had him xrayed, blood tested and then ultrasounded. His blood results were poor and the ultrasound showed inflammation of the colon and the blood results showed liver enzyme issues.
We then put him on a course of antibiotics and tested again a week later. To our disappointment this GGT is still at 384 but now he is showing to be anemic with low iron and low rbc. SAA 349. Vet has asked us to put him on an iron supplement as he is seeming very tired and weak as the days go on. Vet also wanted to do a 5 day panacur guard to rule out any larvae. His bilirubin and bile all ok.
He isn’t eating his hard feed anymore because we have been tampering with it so much and he is not very trusting. Maybe if I changed him to something different he would show interest but he is sick of us syringing him with things at the moment. He is still happy eating grass but has been licking mud.
My poor pony is looking sad and I can’t see him suffer for too long but I am desperate to get him right as I never expected this to happen. Before I went away we were hacking as normal and I am so shocked and heartbroken at this situation please help!
So sorry for your loss:(😢🌈💔
