Sorry, just a little rant...

Just flicked Animal Planet on for 10 minutes while I was eating my breakfast and came across this program..

Pretty much a competition between "badly behaved" dogs (with a couple of cats and a bison thrown in for good measure!), chewing up the house, biting, guarding with aggression, ruling the house...pretty much everything you don't want from a dog  ! Wasn't a British program, it was American. But their owners pretty much just had the mindset of "dogs will be dogs" and "let them destroy the house because thats what dogs do" Sorry, it just made me really angry! These dogs are obviously very unsettled in their own home and need a leader from their owners, not someone that will stand by and let them ruin the house! Most of the behaviour was down to stress and separation anxiety I think. Just infuriates me to see owners laughing at dogs that are so unhappy they feel they have to show such behaviour

I saw that program the other day and nearly posted about it, some of the stuff on there was disgusting, bordering on abuse/neglect.

The one I saw had a husky with separation anxiety; she'd chewed through one of the metal bars of her crate, stuck her head through the gap and ripped up the carpet all around the front of the crate. So the owners moved the crate off the carpet... she learnt to thrust her head and shoulders through the gap, shuffling the crate forward inch by inch, slamming herself up against the bars time and time again until she could reach the carpet and then desperately pulling up strips, howling and whining in between mouthfuls, pulling the crate across the room by ragging on the strips of carpet.

The owners just seemed to think it was funny that they were having to replace the carpet, nothing at all about the state of the poor dog. Thankfully she didn't 'win' the prize for the worst behaved dog.
