On the weekend one of my horses had a fright coming in from the field and bolted back to the yard, he was still cantering when he reached the concrete and then slipped and fell completely over onto his side, continued to skid across the yard broke two rails of my arena fence with what I assume was his legs hitting it and finally came to a stop.

Luckily despite being a little shaken and grazed (thankfully he had a rug with neck on) he seemed ok and the vet advised to turn him out as normal for the following day as he didn't seem lame in walk.
On checking him over today I have noticed that on the inside of both fore legs he has a little swelling. As this is in relatively the same place on both legs.

Does that mean that it is unlikely to be an issue with the tendons?

I am debating whether to get the vet out now or to see how he is in a week which was the original plan with the vet.

If anyone has had a horse fall on concrete or has knowledge on identifying tendon injuries ect advice is welcome.

It is only our small private yard at home so not a large distance probably four canter strides before he fell but the fall itself looked really dramatic.
i have been fortunate enough never to have any experience with tendon injuries and this definitely isn't located at the back of his leg, I also couldn't identify any noticeable heat either.

my big lad fell over on concrete. Out on a hack, and a Shetland poked his head under a fence, Harry spooked, it was like bambi on ice. He legs went everywhere. His hinds went right underneath him, and his front legs splayed out. He got up, and we took him home. I cleaned him up, I got the vet out as he had a decent cut on his elbow, by kicking himself, and had a few scratches and bumps. He ended up on antibiotics, and bute for a few days, and was back to normal after a week. He was a bit battered and bruised.

My boy did something similar - bucked me off and bolted home but missed the turn and slid over on tarmac legs first into a gate. He then got up and galloped down a hill on tarmac to his paddock.

He was stiff and sore for a few days and his legs blew up but recovered fine. He needed stitches in his face so was on antibiotics and antiinflammatories.

That was almost 7 years ago now and he's had no ill effects from it aside from a dampening down of his arrogant streak to the benefit of all.
