Im getting very annoyed at myself. . .

I am basically very very one sided. . .my right arm is like a trunk compared to my twiggy left arm and this has resulted in my not being able to soften it. ..

I can do it. . . .but as soon as i soften i want to take the rein back. . . so defeting the point of me softening. . .

It is just a habit i really am finding hard to get rid of!

My instrucotr is helping me try to get out of it. . . i had a lesson tonight and i am getting there. . . had a huge kick up the bum lesson tonight and i felt awful throughout lesson as i was riding like a muppet, but i got it in the end i jsut need to be a bit firmer and more determined! Came out of the lesson much happier as i learnt loads tonight! We will get there lol!

So any ideas of how to help me get rid of this habit. . .i got some ideas from the NL yesterday but i thought i would ask in here

Also. . . how do i sharpen up a horse to move away from my leg. . . he moves of my leg very well but not away. . . ideas would be great once again

By any chance do you look down when you're riding?

I only ask because I can be one sided (think everyone is a bit) but it is made much worse when I look down which I had got into an awful habit of doing.

Once you look up where you're going then you begin to ride with 'feel' and you will be much more aware of your one-sided-ness (not an actual word) and you will start to ride more evenly.

As for moving away from your leg - have you tried turn on the forehand to show that the leg doesn't always mean forward but sideways? I think persistance is the key, not allowing the horse to go an faster and using the schooling whip as a back up to the leg until the horse begins to understand what you're asking.
