bad leg injury......hydrotherepy session

hi again today i took my mare to hydroyherepy it was nice to experiance what she will be going through for the next 2weeks she had to wear a nappy for obvious reasons

(which she did use!!!!) the photo of cut is after she got out bless her the water was freeeeeeezing cold but she coped very well and stood nicely for half an hr even if she was shaking from the cold....

jeez, nasty wound. hope it heals very quickly.
can't you put a thermatex or something over her back to stop her getting so chilled? just a thought.
i put one of my mares in one of those hydrotherapy spas at a 3-day, she was a bit freaked by it too. did wonders for her legs though.
 
We took a mare with a tendon injury and it really was worth the money.
I would put a rug over her however as the temp is so low and they do get cold.
Our mare soon got used to it, and for the injury you have I don't think there is a better treatment.
 
hi thanks for comments yeah i wanted to put a rug on her but the owner of the spa said no she will be ok as the water was v deep i guess poor girly was shakin tho as soon as she was out i put a warm rug on and walked her round hope they will do the same as iv left he now for 2 weeks x
 
Woah that wound is looking so good now, i cant' get over how quickly that healed. Where did you go for your hydro-therapy if you don't mind me asking.

Keep up the good work you're doing a fantastic job.

I've just gone back and read your other posts on your (gorgeous!!) horseys leg as my baby (4yo and must stop calling him that!) has done something similar but worse

He done his front leg and took 3 chunks out of his tendon (front of leg) as well but hasn't severed it and it still works fine. He opened up from his knee right down round his fetlock. He's got way more proud flesh and had it trimmed off on thursday and again on sat and will prob need more trimming as such a big wound

It does bleed so much but stops pretty quickly. He's still on box rest though and he's becoming very bored.
So onto my questions

did the vet advise hydrothearpy?
Why is it soo good? (coldness just removing blood then bringing it back when warming up so heals faster?)
How much does it cost?

Yeah as soon as vet saw it she said equita will benifit from 2or 3 weeks hydro, it it so fantastic because of the coldness doing wot u said basicly and the cost is £150 per week which they have done as a package deal it is normally £200 and the hydro is £26 per session she is having it every day for 2 weeks hope this has helped.........hubby is going to have to do some overtime ha ha
