While i was laying in bed this morning mulling life over i started thinking about our little cob, who as some of you know came home from loan in appalling condition, i really really do want to prevent that horrid woman taking anything else on loan, but as im sure you all know its not that easy to do, & im pretty sure she will have already sucked someone else in by now. What i was wondering is if there was a way of setting up a bad loaners register? Obviously its not a simple & straight forward thing to do, as there are always 2 sides to a story, but say if the owner had, as i do, photographic evidence & a letter from a vet which is all pretty damning, is it not do'able? Im not talking in terms of handing out names willy nilly to all & sundry, but a service where you can go to someone & say is "Fred Jones from Basingstoke" on your list & giving a yes or no answer....
On the otherside of the coin, while i was writing this,i just thought maybe it could just be a loaners register, & you could also add good loaners to it, the owner of the horse writes up a reference which is added to the register & could be passed on (with consent) to any potential new loanees.
Sorry if im just waffling....i have lots of ideas bumbling around in my head this morning lol!
Can of cherry coke & a bar of galaxy for anyone who got the end of my waffling :)

Could also be used for dealers.

Is your idea not in a similar vein to something set up a few years ago to identify bad liveries ie people that don't pay ?

Wouldnt the opposit be better, and have a good loaners register, where people who have loaned horses out can rate their loaner if they have been good? and provide a reference on request etc...?

It would also be difficult to actually say who is a bad loaner, yes?

I mean....if a horse came home like a toast rack, yes.....their care could have been dubious, but if it's just a case of owner and loaner not agreeing on some aspect of care (not talking about letting horse look like a toast rack now....) then I'd say it could end up in the courts for defamation of character etc etc!

So yes, more than likely illegal I would say. Also with dealers, some people are happy, some are not, doesn't automatically mean that that dealer is a rogue because of one unsatisfied customer....

I did ad that as an afterthought, i think it would be a good idea, but would anyone use it?

One of those lovely ideas that could and probably would go awfully wrong.

I like to consider yself a good loaner, i brought my boy back from being a hatrack, reschooled him and got him better at hacking....

Until he suddenly went crackers, decided to turn into a rearing machine and was extremely out of character. His owner straight away went down the...youre not schooling him enough, youre letting him go at his own pace too much, you need to hack less etc etc. This horse was schooled 3 times a week and hacked 3 times a week. And came to me with no energy and an ill fitting saddle. Now hes in perfect condition with a saddle that fits....

I think a lot of people could be tarred when they havent done anything wrong!!

Though perhaps what might work is a page where you post yourself, with lots of photos of you riding, with horses your yard etc and then maybe you can have a rating scale or something and an owner can rate if you were good. That way, no ones directly saying anything and only genuine people would be likely to tell their loan horses owners about the site. Like a horsey facebook :)
