What a week I've had. My lovely gelding, Ashan, my friend for 18 years, was put to sleep last Tuesday evening (see previous posts). The following day, the man with a digger arrived. Fortunately my husband supervised this while I took the kids out for the day.

That evening, I took our old dog, Boo, with me to keep me company while I sat where Ashan had been buried. I just needed someone to sit with while I reflected on all those memories and how it had all ended.

The next morning, when I let Boo out of his kennel and run, he collasped at my feet. He managed to get to his feet a few times and tried to walk - but he was really groggy - like he had been on a general anathestic. After putting two and two together, I thought maybe he had ingested some phenobarbiturate(?) from where Ashan had been buried. I hadn't seen anything obvious on the ground or I wouldn't have taken Boo over with me.

So I rushed Boo into the vet and he collapsed on the floor of the vet clinic. The vet wasn't entirely convinced that he had ingested phenobarbiturate but I thought it was too much of a coincidence. So I had to leave Boo at the vet on an IV drip.
Fortunately he improved during the day and I was able to go and pick him up that night.

Then two days later, when I let our puppy, Shadow, out of his kennel and run, he was off colour and tilting his head to one side. I looked in his mouth and felt along his jaw. One side looked a bit puffy. So back to the vet. The vet took his temperature which was up so obviously some sort of infection. Shadow is now on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.

I've heard bad luck runs in three. But I'm not so sure. I beginning to need a leap of faith just to get out of bed each morning!

OMG am so sorry for you what an awful week!! Hope you can keep your spirits up a little under circumstances! and lots of hugs to dogs!!

Oh thats not fair, poor you. I hope for your sake thats it. I often think I must have been a very evil being in a previous life for everything my horse throws at me and work and everything else but just be strong!

You've certainly had your share of bad runs. I'm sure things will brighten up for you. Sorry that you lost your boy and hope your dogs are well soon.
