Bad luck with buying horses

A couple of months ago I had a horse vetted and she came up lame in stage 5. Everyone was puzzled so we left it a week or so and tried again, the same thing happened and the vet told me in no uncertain terms not to buy.

I then came off a RS horse (well, a working livery) and injured my hand, so I had to leave it a few weeks to start the search again.

I have now found a horse, vetting was booked for this afternoon. I have booked the day off work and was going to go down to the yard and get her stable ready, visit the saddler and book a fitting, then head over to watch the vetting this afternoon and have her moved over as soon as she passed. (Obviously, given my previous experience I am absolutely terrified she will fail but trying to think positive.)

Just received a telephone call to say she has come in from the field this morning missing a shoe and the farrier can't come out until Wednesday. I am gutted. If I believed in these things I would actually think I was cursed and the universe didn't want me to buy a horse. Of course, I am far too sensible for any of that nonsense but I am feeling deflated.

So, could people please tell me to buck up and get some perspective (as I am well aware this is a fairly minor setback). Also, could you all tell me that she will be vetted on Friday morning and in the stable at my yard by Friday afternoon...

Thanks!

Given that horse huntingg is generally considered to be hell on earth you have barely got your fingers burned yet. It can be a very long, hard road & you just have to keep looking, your horse is out there.

The way I started to look at it you may as well enjoy the thrill and excitement leading up to the vetting happening. That way if the horse fails you have had a week of euphoric anticipation. If it passes the euphoria continues.

The alternative be miserable for a week then if it fails you can be really down and if it passes you have wasted a whole week you could have been happy.

I did 3 vettings so had to train myself to be positive.

Ah Flibble, thank you, that was the sensible attitude I was looking for. You're right, no point being down now, it hasn't happened yet! Back to fantasy rug shopping it is...
