bad manners from other riders whilst hacking out! rant!

I was on a pleasure ride on my own and caught up with two girls on bigger horses, me on a 14.2hh pony. We walked together down a lane and i got off to open the gate into a field, being it was easier for me to get back on.

Turned to shut the gate having let them through first and they both pi**ed off at a fast canter leaving me holding on to a very put out pony. They didn't even wait for me to get back on.
 
When i first got my cob i was out hacking and a string of racehorses came clattering up behind me in trot, the cob being nearly white was apparently a ghost according to these racehorses, but the jockeys insisted on pushing them on at a fast trot past me, my cob was getting wound up as there were about 15 horses with shoes on a tarmac road, so in the end i thought okay guys and dolls you want to have no manners watch this, well my cob can trot and we left them standing going past the lead horse, i had the biggest smile on my face because these riders thought oh theres a big fat cob, should be pulling a cart, lets just run it down, tut tut

I don't get the problem here - she was just trotting behind you and didn't overtake you? If I slowed to a walk every time I saw a horse on the horizon I would never get anywhere - our roads are very long and straight.

I think the attitude of the riders in OP's post were out of order, but in the same vein I don't see any problem with over taking people when out riding, nor people overtaking me - I expect all my horses to be completely unaffected by being overtaken as they have to deal with it out hunting.

This wasn't on a long straight road. It was a winding country road. Personally I wouldn't approach another horse at speed while out hacking on roads as it may be inexperienced. We don't go hunting but as I said my horse was pretty much unaffected. If like mine your horse doesn't bother that's fine but I think it's only courtesy to try to avoid upsetting another horse to limit the possibilities of an accident. Had my horse been spooking at something in the bushes etc at the time it may have been a different story.

An interesting point of view. Does she also subscribe to the view that teenagers should be taught to drive on disused airfields then let loose on the highway and motorways without supervision or dual controls?

Perhaps this person could explain to those of us breeding and training young horses, how they are traffic proofed without traffic?
