I had a wonderful little man (3yo county level petite Welsh D) who I brought as a little project a while back. After bringing him on a bit with his school work (just general aids, transitions, not freaking out at fillers and trotting over poles) and hacking alone and in company.
I brought him unseen as he was pretty cheap, and was happy. Tried him in all scenarios and as he trusted me, we were fine.
Sadly however, he wasn't as big as advertised so I didn't want to cause long term damage bringing him on further as I was just that little bit too big on him.
Advertised him, and had a text that night (about 10.30pm) asking info. He was advertised as a 3yo, green, basics established but needs bringing on. They asked a few odd questions about his capabilities, but responded he is a GREEN 3YO and very baby-ish. Expected it to be a timewaster but they then asked to buy him at a cheaper rate than advertised. Looked up their website (they produce/train/back/school/compete) and they seemed to be great...still all done via text however. Sent bank details and transfer was completed - obviously very trusting people!
Knew that they were planning to produce and show/sell which I was totally happy with and they assured me their ponies only go to good homes and are spoilt in their care.
So off little pony went, big kiss and carrot....
Next morning, I recieve a text(!) to say he reared up with them when they got on him in the indoor school. They had written him off there and then, said he was a danger, that he would never sell etc. They were passing him to a dealer up North at a loss as wouldn't have him on their yard a minute longer.
Tried to call lady, but she never answers the phone, everything is done via text. Agree that if he was a rearer, and sold as a schoolmaster or even a novice then it would be a huge issue and money would be refunded, I would pick him up and apologise.
However, said horse is a 3yo, and very timid at that. I can only think he was terrified (having just arrived 12 hours prior onto a busy yard). I did advise he is nervy and would need to settle and trust you before things start.
My poor boy is now off to a dealer as I cannot afford to buy him back this week (payday isn't for a few weeks). I cannot hold it against them but just quite shocked to think these people are producers and breakers of ponies?? He is not a ''rearer'' but a horses fight or flight instinct obviously kicks in at times like this and the poor ****** is a baby. What did they expect?
I am now going to insist people talk on the phone to me before buying, and view!!!
