just wondering if other people have this problem. My already poorly mare (Lame poorly) is thoroughly miserable after her jab. Can hardly move her neck and is stiff all through her back and has a large lump on her neck at the site of inj. My vet said its fine, give her bute and he is not worried. I trust him completely, just wondering if i have a complete we lettuce on my hands?? or do others suffer the same? I seem to remember the first year she had it done she was a witch for 3 days but we didn't know her personality then and just thought she was completely mental!

Some have problems with them - often to the carrier rather than the vaccine itself. You can ask your vet for a different brand or a "sub-unit vaccine" next time as well.

Yes some do react like this. My old boy had a really stiff neck once after he got vaccinated, I think it was because he had his jab in the evening (in his neck) and then stood with his head up all night eating hay. So the next morning his neck was fixed in this position! It took a few days to wear off.

After this I made sure he always had his jabs early so he could go out and move around lots so he didn't stiffen up. It is similar to us really, some jabs I've had I can feel beginning to make my arm go numb, so I make sure i keep moving it to prevent this from happening, whilst other people who don't get really stiff sore arms!

Yes one of mine has had this reaction too. In addition to the advice already given, you can also ask the vet to inject into the chest instead of the neck, this makes it easier to drain if the lump decides to turn into an abcess.

Don't worry though, some bute and rest for a few days and she'll be fine.

Mine was really bad with Duvaxin (?). My vet tells me it's the carrier, and that he can never have it again, it might kill him. His whole head, neck, chest and belly swelled. His pulse went dangerously high. It was really frightening for a few hours.

Mine reacted to Equipe FT pro - had swelling and tenderness in the area where the vaccination had been done (once on chest and once on hind quarters). It went after a couple of days of rest and bute. She's absolutely fine with Duvaxin (sp?) so I always ask the vet to stick to it.

I would notify the manufacturer of the vaccine as I think from memory that they need to know about and record reaction details as part of their approval and licensing for the drug (not absolutely sure but seem to remember that this was the case when mine reacted)

My mare had this reaction with her jab, never happend before. she had a stiff neck and looked really chessed off

Rua on here who owns my old horse Spike had problems this year after an injection of penicillin and he couldn't bend his neck to drink or eat so was thoroughly miserable for a few days. He hasn't ever reacted to his vaccination though.

My mare had this once, many years ago and as above the vet said it was the carrier she was allergic to, not the vaccine itself. I made sure she never had that brand again and she's not had another bad reaction. For a number of years I got them to inject into her quarters just in case.

My mare had it too, We put some lavender oli on her neck at the sight of injection and the next day she was feeling and looking much better.

Yep me as I swell up where the jab has been, tetnus even worse as my whole arm swelled up hot and painfull and yes one of my horses had the same problem with both jabs the others a little swelling or very hot and tender

One of mine had the same this year. He had Prequenza. Very sore and unhappy for about 5 days.

In the future he will be given the flu and tet separetley, as I understand this gives less of a reaction.

my boy reacts badly if you inject him in the chest he goes lame on the front if you inject him on the neck he can not move his neck for days!

This happened to my mare too. Although bute brought down the inflammation and killed the pain my vet advised to avoid vaccination in the future unless I absolutely needed to.
