last wednesday my horse was admitted to leahurst equine hospital after stopping eating, having a horrendous temerature and being very depressed.he was treated for a bacterial infection at home using antibiotics and bute.his temperature dropped but he still wouldnt eat therfore was admitted. he was blood tested and had virtually no protein.after 5 excruciating days of waiting for biopsy results etc and me preparing myself for him having a tumor it appears he had inflammation in his colon caused by the bute he was on.this is the second horse i have owned in 4 years that this has happened to, the first one was literally hours from death when we got him there. they said it very rare(especially to happen to 2 of my horses) so i must be very unlucky but i will be very cautious in future when using it!

Poor ned and poor you D&F. I've never heard of a horse having such a terrible and dangerous rection to bute. Scary. Fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery. Can the vets make an entry on his passport or something to make sure he's never given bute again?

thanks, he did write it on with my last horse,i am the unluckiest person when it comes to horses!they said only have 2 cases a year and i had 2 horses with it!!went to visit him yesterday and he seemed much perkier and was wading his way through his haylage.his protein levels are rising now so fingers crossed x
