Bad riding at affiliated comps...

I went to a BSJA show today, watched most of the Discovery as I was one of the first in and had a nice view from the lorry

and I was quite amazed how pants some people were!!

I'm no amazing rider, but some of them didn't even know where they were going and/or had no steering and so there lovely horses didn't have much of a chance!

I would have thought that if you bother to pay for affiliated competitions you would at least have basic schooling (i.e. be able to steer round a course of jumps!) and remember the course!

Might just be me being a bitch but there were lots of posh wagons and stunning horses without the rider to match!

What do you guys think and do you know what i mean?? Or am i going mad??

You have to start somewhere!

I am very aware of being messy and flapping at the moment, also come out puffing like a train (although because my horses aren't that forward going).

I'd still pay to go affiliated to avoid snotty teenage girls at unaffiliated!!
 
Sorry, not meaning to be rude, but I expect you try to remember the course??

I'm not the fittest rider either, always get a sweat on?

Yes - got a 3rd & 5th today so remember it and try and cut corners as my horse cannot beat a TB!

On saying that when I have arrived late and be thrown straight into a class, I did have to canter around looking for a jump (that was unaffiliated!!)

I tend to realise about 2 second before I jump where I am going. But Im not one of these riders that flap or drag horse all over Im calm and collected.

I suppose everyone starts somewhere??

i went the wrong way in the british novice yesterday at WL...

I turned the wrong way after a fence as the flow took me to the right when i should have actually turned left- in my defense the person after me did nearly the exact same thing, and i didnt get the chance to watch anyone go round the course as the person before me that i was going to watch fell off at the third fence..! anyway i tried not to cross my tracks after i had turned the wrong way and i thought i had got away with it but still got the 4 faults

i dont think your going mad bb2, i must say ive be surprised at some of the shocking riding at some affiliated comps to. generally its of a good standard but there is always the odd one or two

I have gone the wrong way quite a lot really, but I normally turn the wrong way or something, these people were going on the totally wrong line into No.1 (so jumping it on an angle) going for what was number 2 in the BN but it had been changed for the Discovery!

Are you enjoying the SJ or do you want to go back to eventing asap?
 
yeah im enjoying it actually- but do want to get back to eventing as soon as poss as i have area eventing in August and havent done any events for ages cos of the bloody rain!
 
I hope I don't fall into that category! At least I can remember the course! I'm not one of these people with a posh lorry and horse - we turn up with an ancient rear-unload trailer and out comes my bog-standard pony! I love her though, she's a superstar and she helps me out so much.

I know someone with an £8k horse that jumped 1.25's before she bought it, and she used to often fall off in 90cm/1m classes!
 
(sorry BB2 just going to hijack your post to say...) Helen you definitely do NOT fall into the "bad riding" category whatsoever!! you ride Shad brilliantly and she is no bog standard pony - she is really smart and oozes "look at me"

...There is loads of iffy riding at affiliated shows (ok we all have our off days) and i know when ive ridden badly but there is some appalling riding sometimes both BSJA and BE usually and British Novice and intro level

*wonders if she falls in this category on Hattie*!! I remember feeling very "insignificant" at one BSJA show where we turned up and we were the only trailer with about 30 HUGE and i mean HUGE lorries - the parking person wouldnt even give us enough space to use our side ramp because he wanted to pack everyone in so closely - we call ourselves trailer trash! atleast we have a half decent horse that comes out of the trailer - not sure about the jockey sometimes though!!!

Aww H you and your family are totally like ours!! We've always had a wagon because we have a few horses to take hunting, but it has always been a sh*t one!! My dad keeps saying "it's what comes out of the box that counts!" and is so true!

I'd just hate to be one of those people who come out of a 70k+ wagon with the horse to match and STILL don't get round!

maybe horses that are hard work... I know mine is. get him in the SJ area, no steering at all, he goes the way he wants. Generally back towards the entrance
