I am a "back to riding" 39 yr old after a 20 year break. I am trying to find out if it is the way i ride in rising trot or maybe an incorrect saddle for me that causes "discomfort"!! Any tips, probably one for the girls to comment on!!!!

Its difficult to say without seeing anything but it sounds like you're putting too much effort into rising to the trot and possibly exaggerating the movement if that makes sense, so you're coming down on the saddle harder and causing the discomfort. When you rise to the trot you should be rising when the horse's movement naturally causes you to come out of the saddle slightly, so you're rising in time with the horse. It should feel natural rather then a forced movement. Good the luck with your riding and I hope I've helped! Nx

forgot to add to my previous post, check out the section on riders alignment (photos 1,2,3,4)are you maybe perching onto your fork as in photo 4? Hope this helps

Thanks malyclay, that webiste is great, and i do tilt my pelvis forward, where i am getting my "discomfort".
Natasia, i do understand you and it is still feeling all a bit false at the moment. Lots to work on. Many Thanks for your comments. x

Cant comment unless seen you ride im afraid,i did want to reply though to say well done you for getting back into it i really hope you are enjoying itx

Hi Sandra, I know exactly how you feel, I got back in the saddle after having 4 kids and a 12 yr break, it was awful to feel 'wrong' all the time. I tipped forward, had a very insecure seat (fell off 3 times, lol) and just looked/felt generally awful! My saddle is also a poor fit for me, and the wrong shape for my fat cob so that was another challenge to learn to sit in it properly! (As I have a loan horse it came with him.:( But it fits better now hes lost a few pounds.) My best advice to you is stick with it and it will come back, Its been 5 months for me and I feel such an improvement. Heres pics on a thread I posted a few days ago.
