Bad swelling from bite!!

Hi,
Just after some advice before I call the vet out tomorrow. My horse came in today with two v large swellings:- one on his sheath the other at the top inside of his hind leg (as u can see in pic) in between them both looks like a big insect bite? of some sort so maybe an allergic reaction? Or infection from bite?? the size of the swellings has worried me! Anyone had anything similar is the vet needed or will these go down on there own once the bite has healed? I thought see how they r tomorro. Bite is all cleaned but was a bit oozy!
Any help/advice??

my mare gets similar lumps...... i clean bite, pull out lump of dried poision from bite, cover in sudo cream...

takes few days/week to go down....just keep an eye that the lump doesnt go really hard, as this could be a sign of calcification!
 
Yes, sasha got two on her back from just fri night out naked.... One as big as a marble just to side of wither and another same size just behind saddle area,,, prompted me to go to buy a fly rug, so she now looks like a white ghost in the field.. Luckily neither interfered with saddle, cos its so lovely this weekend. I've fly sprayed her , she didn't mind either and sudo it . Gone down by tonight.. Nasty flies about

He's had raised bites before but these are huge like large handfuls!! Fingers x'd they r down a bit tomorrow I've been to shop & bought even more fly repellents! He has a fly rug on but now tempted to get a total bug rug! X
 
Looks like a bite. I myself got bitten by something last week, one on the top of my hand between thumb and index finger and one just above my knee - both came up as huge swellings, very itchy and with nasty little heads of poison on them. I actually treated them with the derma gel that I keep in the horsey 1st aid kit. The one on my hand is still itchy and quite prominent although the worst of the swelling has now gone. There are some really nasty bitey bugs out there at the moment!
