Well went for walk round local fields this afternoon, saw a owner and dog coming along top of field as we headed up- FIRST time ever get dog to sit and wait for me.
Owner says oh wow wish mine would do that- hers on a lead, she says he just wants to play,
mine does too so i say that's fine we let them go,
mine waits hers comes bounding over then attacks mine, rolling him over grabbing his neck, my dog is crying (he is a wimp). Break them up, her dog gets told off. Mine is then cowering, woman tries to give him a treat to say sorry as he is so scared. Not working really so we walk them round together on leads my boy is still scared but better.
Thankfully we then met my dogs best friend who he is as pulling to play with. He did play with her but still not totally happy. (naughty dog kept on lead).
Did i do right- i don't want him getting scared of dogs now. My trainer is not training but if its beneficial i may ring and see if i can go over at weekend and walk with hers on Saturday.

I'd just pretend nothing happened and keep everyone moving, no pausing and 'what's wronging' and 'there thereing' we humans are very quick to stop everything and over-comfort our dogs when something happens, the best option for most is to deal with the issue and move on, literally and metaphorically - I wouldn't make it into an issue, ESPECIALLY if he is naturally wimpy, you may end up reinforcing his wimpyness and be careful you don't transfer your own worries and fears onto him, if you are anxious, even if you're anxious ABOUT him, he will be anxious.

Thanks CC- it may do him some good in one way as he always likes to say hi to dogs when really he should wait to be told its ok.
I was glad we met the other dogs as at least he left the field after a play.
I wasn't too worried about him actually being attacked as such just worried me he was so cowering afterwards.
Yes that's why we walked on afterwards to try and get him back to enjoying himself.
Do you think it may be worth getting him out with other dogs sooner not later? We don't often meet dogs locally so i can arrange with trainer to go over if it would be beneficial.
