There seems to be little snippets here and there that we are in for another bad winter!! possibly worse than last year!! are these just rumours or has it actually been stated anywhere??

I know people say look at the berries on the bushes,I'd rather not there are tons of them near me

What's the berries on the bush saying? Not heard that one before! Iv got loads here too, so if it means lots of berries means bad weather, I'm doomed!! Especially as I'm taking in two donkeys for the winter along with my two boys and a baby in tow!!!

another thought is that the berries on bush is actually a reaction to last years bad winter. to me that makes more sense too

Although yes it is predicted to be as bad if not worse :(

Lol your gonna be busy!!

Think if theres lots of berries it means a bad one,so mother natures giving her best to feed all the little animals/birds who live off berries!!

There may be some truth in the berries thing, that last two autumn's there has been lots of fruit too, and the last two winters have been pretty hard.

Isn't it meant to snow by October this year?

Me and the OH were discussing buying some snow shovels (last years one broke), grit salt and some sledges before it snows, as you can't get anything decent after that first flake has hit the ground

Or maybe cause we had such a great summer ;) :D

But who has predicted it!! I dont beleive everything the BBC say lol

Hopefully they'll be rumours like the ones we heard at the begining of the summer 'hottest summer on record'. load of rubbish!!

im hoping it wont be another horrendous winter because im living in the middle of nowhere hoping to get home once a month and wont beable to do that if the snow comes! +side i can ride the quad bike! :D

The reason there is a lot of fruit is not because we are in for a bad winter but because we had snow that stayed around last winter. The snowflakes pick up nitrogen and traces of arsenic and mercury which are slowly released as the snow melts acting as a very good fertiliser.

Not saying that it will not be a rough winter - most of you have not seen a really 'bad' winter like 1962/63 when there was a blizzard Boxing Day and sub zero temperatures day and night. Drifts were (on the Isle of Wight) over 20 feet in places.

Makes me snigger when people moan they cannot get to their stables - I spent every day dragging for 2 miles, mostly up steep hills, a sledge laden with cast iron milk churns filled with water to the riding school ponies and then dragging hay to them. Only time my mother ever let me miss school.

I have walked 7 miles in deep snow to go feed the horses then 7 miles home. Toughen up, get real and walk if we do have a hard winter.

In all truth stock will do better in cold/snow than ever they will in driving rain.

Sledges you can never get a sledge once it snows, those pesky kids have them all :D

Nature has a way of providing... Loads of berries, acorns, late fruit (blackberries, sloe, wild plum). Not seen this amount for a few years. And it was ridiculously dry all summer here...

Not that I am wishing for a bad winter! Far from it... Just what I have observed... (Already shuddering at the thought!) Just moved house and the stables are not ready for the horses yet! Aaaaargh!
