Why on earth all these dressage stallions? Would prefer a wide range of event stallions/potential event stallions really! Badminton is Not the place to see the full dressage stallions range....

Established Stallions like Weston Justice were not invited. Maestro (who owns Weston Justice) put a post up about it saying how disgusted they were that a British Bred Eventing Stallion was not offered the chance to be at such a prestigious event and that according to SHB they were concentrating on younger stallions. If I had an eventing mare Uthopia (a dressage stallion who is unproved at top level as yet) would not be top of the list.

If I were watching that parade I would not be in the slightest bit interested in looking at the dressage stallions. Its largely eventing fans there at Badminton not dressage. It does not make sense as to why they would not invite stallions like Weston Justice. Its a real shame because am sure that the foreign riders would be v.interested in seeing some of our stallions in the flesh...
If I was an event rider/breeder and I travelled all the way to the U.S/oz/NZ etc to do/watch an event, Id be VERY disapointed to see only ( average) dressage stallions on display so likewise would imagine that the foriegn riders at Badminton must be very disapointed too. I would be thinking- is this the best that Britain has got to offer?

Thanks for your comments there other stallion owners on here as well who should have been able to go. I would love to quote these comments if poss to SHB(GB). It would be nice to get a spring parade of Graded Stallions going at the Grading at Addington which I want to suggest, but Badminton should really be for the Eventing Stallions I think.

I think the SHB has been very shortsighted on Badminton. I like stallion parades as they really show the horses off and you can compare them to others you are maybe interested in. Another Stallion I am surprised was missing was Chilli Morning as he is young yet proven at PAVO. It just strikes me that the parade was organised for the benefit of a certain few and not the public. The PAVO parade at breeding champs though I did not go I saw plenty of photos was exactly like how the Badminton one should have been with a wide range of stallions. Also I noticed adverts everywhere at Badminton for Irish Breeding and tables of performing eventers bred by Irish stallions and yet nothing about British bred horses. The SHB should have a stand at Badminton and I certainly did not see one.

Although my stallion is 'dressage' because of me and my speciality he is from strong jumping lines. All stallions graded with SHB[GB] have to free jump and they cannot pass if they do not jump. They are all SPORT horses, so depending on your mare will depend obviously on which stallion. My stallion for example is half tb by a kwpn stallion , who himself competed internationally in dressage but was reserve champion in the 5yr old jumping champs in the Netherlands. My boy actually is a very good eventing type sire just because he does dressage it does not exclude him from having value as a Sport horse athlete first and formost.
The stallion parade should therefore show lots of 'types' of stallion, in terms of breeding and build as this is representaive of all the mares out there and what they need and therefore the range of stallions the book has to offer.

I understand that there may be some that choose to go that direction - Pro Set has been very popular in the last couple of years when combined with a TB mare for eventing I guess we will see the results of this in a couple of years. I think its a shame that the SHB does not seem to be doing enough and that some proven stallions were missed off the list with such a good viewing window.

My stallion that has now passed away never got invited when he was alive, even though he was graded elite, he himself was a top show jumper and dressage horse but has thrown offspring in all 3 disciplines and has 2 decades of offspring behind him proving his worth. I got offspring of his aged from 7 days to 23 years and more on the way, it would have been nice for him to have been invited but he never got one.

I understand they can't invite everyone but I would have thought they would have invited the creme de la creme of the studbook rather than younger un proven stallions.

It would be worth it if enough of a crowd could could be pulled in, thats the thing about the Badminton their is such a high turnout, that why I don't understand wanting younger stallions parading surely you want the best stallions on the stud book that you can get, give the studbook as high a profile as possible.
I would parade mine, i've only got the one graded at the moment because I lost my Elite one but it would definitely be something I would do.
The stallion parades are a good idea, it lets alot of people look at many different stallions all in one place, and let people show off their boys, some of which may have been retired for a number of years that people have forgotten about or don't remember as well as ones that are still competing!

One for the stallion owners: are there any problems that the timing of this parade presents? At the PAVO champs none of the stallions would be covering at that timeof year, so I would have thought it was easier to get them there than to a parade at the beginning of May? Would this be a factor for some of you?

Can I just say that my daughter's Irish bred (no wormblood at all)event mare has just given birth to a beautiful strong foal by Weston Justice. We are thrilled with it - very self confident and 'curious'. Excellent blood lines!

Not for me, my boy is retired. When my two younger ones grade it would depnd on the riders comptitments although they have their own graded stallions so would probably want to do it as well.
