Well we didn't do that brill but We enjoyed ourselves lots!!

So got there nice and early this morning for the dressage, he did a nice test but got unbalanced in both his canters - didn't help that it was on a slope

. Still, I was quite disappointed to see we got 45.

There were a lot of scores in the forties though so i think she was just a mean judge!

Onto show jumping he went well but there wasn't really anything to back him off so he got a bit complacent and had the first part of the double down. Better than our two down last time though.

Onto XC, he gave me the best ride ever!!

He was really bold and jumped fab!! Had a stupid run out at No.6 - it was a small, narrow palisade down quite a long hill and he just got too fast and stupid rider didn't steady him enough.

Whipped round and popped over it and then he was off again!

He was on a bit of a mission today and I had little in the way of brakes.... made it all the more exciting but probably not the most sensible way of going XC. I'm definitely going to need more than a snaffle out hunting this time!! So bought him an American gag to see how he gets with that. I know it sounds a bit harsh but I've tried other things and it doesn't make any difference so it's worth a try?

All in all, a great day out, and my XC round gave me a lot of hope for him to go onto bigger and better things, despite the rider error.

I met KatB and her lovely horsey!! He's a stunner and they looked really good!

At least you finished! Well done

How did you find fence 3? I hated the look of it on walking the course and consequently we never got further than that

Wasn't the dressage ground awful? Slippy, hard and like you say, on a slope! Mind you we had a couple of slips on the SJ too but fortunately Shadow's a careful jumper so she sorts herself out

Lol!! I thought 3 was a bit of a bugger for an intro, but missed my line, handbraked it and horse was so surprised he jumped it very neatly !!

Thought Sjing ground was fab, and they had worked hard on the ground overall. The Dressage was crap on a slope, but didnt think it too hard?! Had studs in and didnt slip either....

Sounds like an enjoyable day (bar running past skinny which I'm sure you weren't the only one in an intro class).
Why don't you try a waterford, my OH hunts his mare in one and it just gives enough extra brakes without being too harsh, he uses a fulmer one with the little leather loops onto the cheekpieces.
They aren't expensive to buy, and is less severe than a gag.

I thought number 3 was quite hard when I walked it but Badger jumped it well. The lady at the start said it had been causing some problems.

Badger didn't slip all day but he was studded up. My mum thought the dressage was a bit crap, but it's the same for everyone I suppose... Both my canters were rubbish because of the hill!
