Is it just me or do you think its a good idea for a high profile horse welfare
charity should sponser a fence in a eventing competion?Lucky it wasnt at their fence that the horse had to be destroyed.Dont get me wrong Im a fan of
X country, but could have been a big negative public relations disaster for them.

Badminton has a charity of the year every year - it was the Blue Cross a few years back. They don't sponsor fences - the event names the fence after them, and they can do extra fundraising things, have little displays in the main arena, that kind of thing.

I don't think so...a few 'ILPH' horses are out there competing so I don't see why not. Seeing as most of the cases they get are abuse from neglect/starvation/abandonment/obesity/etc/etc....I hardly think it wrong to deem it innapropriate of them to sponsor an event with millions of pounds worthof horses in it, all in top form from thousands of regular upkeep [physio, dentsit, farrier, feed, training, etc] spent on them! Plus it's good for the charity being seen involved in that big of an event.
:)

Why would you say that?
Are you saying you think that eventing is a cruel sport? If so you are entitled to your own opinion but I have no doubts that more horses are killed on the roads out hacking than fatalities in eventing so would have to disagree with you.

Seems entirely appropriate to me. People who go to the event are horse lovers with an interest in equine welfare. There is a big difference between a well cared for horse having an unfortunate accident doing something it loves and a starved, beaten or neglected horse.

I don't think that's what the OP means. It would be a bit of a potential media hoohah... Horse dies at World Horse Welfare Jump and so on...
