A friend and I are planning on going to Badminton next year. We went a couple of years ago and stayed in a caravan at a campsite, but next year we just want a tent pitch which the previous caravaning site did not offer.

Are there any recommendations for good campsites around badminton? We don't mind travelling 10/15mins in the morning, but the closer the better!
Alternatively have you ever stayed at the campsite at badminton? Any info? This is another option but i think it may be more expensive.

I know this is very early to be thinking about it but we just want to get things sorted and im sure things get booked up early.

Lets hope for no rain next year!

Stay on site - it is a fortune, but you do have the bonus of not having to drive for days, this is VERY good when it's peeing down with rain and having a brandy in your morning hot chocolate is appealing to you! I have camped in a tent, travelled to a B&B each night, and stayed in a caravan, oh and once rented a camper van, tent isn't much fun TBH. You can rent a caravan to be ready on your pitch for you, no idea on cost for that though.

I stayed on site the year before last, great atmosphere and you can walk everywhere. To be honest, with the traffic when trying to get off site, it's prob worth paying the extra to just wander back and crack open a bottle of wine rather than sitting in your car for an age to get back to a different site! If you're going for a few days I think it's quite good value, specially if you go for the small pitch for a smaller tent!

I stayed on site and got the 5 day pass. It was worth it. They do a good job with the showers and toilets. I took a transit and put a gazebo against it. It made a great set up, as you get charged for vehicle plus tent, which mine was! So, see if you can get someone to lend you a van. :)

Thanks everyone. We are seriously thinking about staying onsite.
Unfortunatly can't borrow a van as we will only have been driving a year when we go and insurance would be huge!

Thanks for all you help! X

If you don't stay on site you then have to factor in the cost of the passes. I'm local to Badminton and TBH I can't think of any other campsites around the area unless a friendly decides to set up an ad hoc site. I think for the convenience you would be better off staying on site. Think of the cost of fuel burning away when you sat in those jams!!!

Thanks everyone! I think you have swayed our choice. I dont think it will be much if any more expensive to stay onsite once fuel, time and campsite rates have been factored in!

Rema- horse trailer sounds like a good plan! I assume you cleaned it out first! Did you just shut the top doors and was it warm enough?

Steam cleaned the trailer out first..I picked up a load of blankets from the charity shop and washed them then laid them on the floor and put our camp beds on top..We also threaded rope through eyelets we cut in the top of the blankets and lined the walls/ramps with them (so we only used the jockey door for coming and going)..Kept the worst of the chill and drafts out.The dog slept in the nose of the trailer with his bed and blankets..We put a Gazebo up to house our table and chairs and bbq and cooler boxes.I have a tack pack on the jockey door and kept this for washing bowls and shower stuff...and on the last day of Badders i have all that room in the trailer to fill with shopping..

Same as you would pay for car and caravan as it takes up roughly the same square footage..So i think it was about £180 odd..That is camping for 5 days and passes/car passes for two into Badders..

Edited to add i have just checked the prices for 2013 and it is £195..

not to early to be thinking about it, you'll be having to book it in a few weeks if you want to camp there:D as Rema says it's nearly £200 but that includes 2 full passes which are worth about £35 each so it's not a bad deal at all really.
we were booked to go this year:( my friend has been every year for about the last 6 so she gets advanced booking, we'll spend the morning pressing redial on the phone until we get through:D
