Yep had also booked the week off as it's a four day week and I have so much holiday to use up. It's one of the highlights of my year and along with no skiing for 2 years it's all a bit crap isn't it.

I was looking at hiring a big screen and having an outside Badminton get together too (for 6 people and socially distanced of course if still on current roadmap!)

Another who's gutted - it's my birthday week too and I was so looking forward to a couple of days watching top equestrian sport :( Still, it's a small loss in the greater scheme of things and I with the Brazilian variant now in South Glocs it would still be a risky gathering.

It is definitely gutting but I can understand why the decision has been made. It would be a large gathering of people from all over the country and beyond, and it is hard to be certain about where we will be in May.

Also, I know events will be back on soon but with last season effectively cancelled and limited prep time this season, I did wonder about how "match ready" some of the competitors would be- not the experienced combinations, but first timers etc.

It is really sad though and I hope that other events are able to go ahead.

Inevitable but depressing. If it had gone ahead, we may well have seen some problems due to lack of match practice. Sigh.

Devastated for myself but also for the competitors, organisers, sponsors, businesses that rely on stands at big shows like Badminton for a revenue boost. Badminton is my favourite event of the year and a day I really cherish with my Mum. I don't normally make the effort to go to Burghley as it is a bit far for a day trip but if it's running and open to the public I think I will. I also like Blenheim so I am hopeful being later in the calendar they are still in with a chance (unless it's already been confirmed they aren't going ahead and I've missed it?).

Royal Windsor at least have come out and said they are going ahead and that is v local to me so some small silver lining. I've got to spend some money at the stalls before baby comes along and I have to be responsible!

Last I heard Kentucky was still going ahead, will many from Europe etc go though? I assume the costs involved in getting horses over there and the lack of run up events will put a lot off?

There were never going to be stands at Badminton this year.

Blenheim will run in theory but anyone's guess as to how/in what form.

I volunteer at Blenheim and have done for years. It will be very interesting to see how it is run as the contract to run it went to the Jockey Club. I have not heard anything from them either.

I am disappointed that they are not running but am not at all surprised. Even with no spectators it takes a vast number of people to put it on. The cost of the medical cover for the riders is huge ( I know because my OH used to be a Doctor there ). The basic overheads are enormous so without revenue from traders ( who pay for their pitches) ticket sales etc etc it was going to be financially difficult to do. With the new EHV outbreak they have probably dodged a bullet.
I am another person who was concerned we would see some ugly sights with so many cancelled events last year there will be people who have qualified but not had enough outings last year to perhaps be as prepared as they might be.
