"Badminton Death-Fest"

i thought for a moment then that was a bbc report!

as usual the bunny huggers with minimal knowledge are on their soapbox. someone push them off!

Read this last night. As I said there is no point arguing with people like that. They are not interested in the actual facts and are determined to stick with their stereotypes.

It is tragic that two horses died and it really does make me incredibly sad but i think a death fest and the racist rant about 'white middle class' is absolute rubbish. As someone mentioned, horses get killed on the roads each day...should this be stopped as well? the deaths were very sad and do cast a shadow on the sport but, in my opinion, lessons should be learn like looking at the flag poles and the material they are created from rather than attacking people who attend and indeed ride in these events.

utter rubbish things happen i have seen a horse at sj just collapse of a heart attack and die perfectly fit and healthy.

Eventing is a risk sport yes but so is riding horses on a day to day basis a horse can slip on a road and break a leg so should we all stop riding for the fear we could kill our horses?

Why has everything so dam PC regards ethnic origin? Why is a sport flagged up because if doesn't have enough ethnic diversity.

For gods sake, its their choice if they want to enjoy this sport- Let them make the choice themselves instead of insisting that we must have at least 10% attendance of black people to be correct. It mostly boils down to there countries history. Britain's history is steeped with horses and we are one of the most distinguished in the horse world whilst other countries with different ethnic backgrounds view horses as workers and not to be enjoyed or simply as animals not worth the effort. If they do and there are some then they are more than welcome- this is not a "club" for whites- the people who have those views are the ones living in a Draconian era- not us.

I am middle-class, nothing wrong with that- the only difference being my parents worked dam hard to get a good educations and good jobs and I will not apologise to anybody for that.

Horses can weight 500kgs plus and are not dainty little things who cannot stand up for themselves. If they didn't want to jump those fences- they sure wouldn't. 500kgs versus 60kgs- not a negotiation if they don't want to do things- but you know what, riders/horses are a partnership in every way. We would never intentionally hurt our horse (or shouldn't) and I am sure they feel the same towards up.

If you feel that the horse world is a horrid place come and spend some time with the true "horsemen/women" and you will see that the horses have a pretty good life.

That is what I have just posted.

If I were registered to post I would reply supporting H_B's comment (didn't realise it was an HHOer's comment but I thought it was particularly good!)
I also replied with my thoughts on this last night on Boss's post in Latest News. For any that can't be bothered to seek out that thread, basically I said "what an idiot" in far more words!

Absolutely not. No one wants anyone to be injured and I hardly think it is right to critisize white, middle class people, this is England, we are white, and what exactly defines "middle class" these days? In fact I think there is a serious decline in "class" of people today, unable to keep their vile mouths shut, unable to queue and unable to bring up their children with any sort of decorum.

I think it is very said that two horses died, yes, it is, tragic. Horses also die out hunting, hacking, in their stables too.

This was my thought too - horses die every day, and sometimes doing something that we asked them to do. That's nature, and not all accidents can be avoided.
Yes, it would have been less sad and shocking if the horses had died out in a field or in their stables but the result would still be the same.
As horrible as it is, not all horses - or people, or anything - live to a ripe old age, and some do die working.

I'm surely not the only one who must have noticed how anti-British the BBC has become these days. They charge a fortune in fees just to show more repeats, gardening programmes, "extreme" home makeover reality programmes or endless cookery programmes (next we'll have "Jamie's Prison Dinners" or some such garbage!)

Sounds to me like that article is the product of jealousy and envy more than anything.

Obviously not a clue why anyone rides there, I bet if you asked the competitors they would still do it without a single spectator!
The French horse was a freak accident that could have happened walking along a bridlepath if a horse spooked, and heart attacks do happen in all types of circumstances.
I have to say the thread yesterday bothered me where someone claimed the grey had previously been sold to retire from that level, if it's true that's wrong to continue competing at that level again.
You will always get prats who claim even riding horses is cruel, I think stuffing kids with loads of junk food is cruel, but each to their own....

what rubbish you could bloody die crossing the road of out hacking, most of the horses which ran at badminton was allowed to run as there riders felt there horses could withstand the going conditions, there are much worse ways for horses to die, top level event horses love there jobs hence why they are so successful , i can only hope i die doing something i love doing

"So, Another two horses (so far) die in agony to satsify the whims of an audience that is a relic of a bygone era - ie white, middle class. Surely it is time to put a stop to this tragic event, which has little to do with sport and much to do with cruelty to animals."

Thoughts on this guys opinion??

As an enthusiastic and dedicated horse owner and evet rider i find your coments disgusting, narrow minded and as to the view that you hold 'class' somhow relivent?! utterly offencive.
If you want to 'pidgeon hole' yourself in this way go ahead.
I'm british and proud and i don't need a lable.
Thoughts and opinions........yes your bigoted, and yes ignorant, good luck in your inanely stupid attempts 'lable'

its sad about the horses dieing true but it could happen to any horse any where in the country. my aunties horse had a heart attack out hunting, he was only 11 and hunted once a week vertually all season was bred to race so was fit as a flea and loved his hunting but one day he just ground to a halt and hit the floor its just unfortunatly one of those things
