housewife and yummy mummy
im just woundering how u all found badminton this year , i go every year, and every year i say never again firstly i think a tenner to park is a rip off, also, i paid 9 quid to get in , bearing in mind this was the last day and after 12, i took plenty of money and only bought a pair of crocs, the stalls we found were just like expensive tack shops, nothing original at all , so only stayed 2 hrs, and came back home with my money. so sorry to moan im sure many of u enjoyed the middle class market, and i didnt see one horse... great eh !!!!!

I didn't go this year, but went 2 days last year, loved every minute of it. Yes the shops can be expensive but others are just great, i think you defiently get what you pay for though!

Errrrrrrr if you go every year, then why were you so shocked about this year? The trade stands are always the same (near as dammit) and the car park hasn't suddenly increased

Actually the trade stands weren't that bad (I didn't think). As most of them are expensive tack shops that have paid to have stands there. There were some bargains there but you had to shop around (I didn't much as get crowd rage to left the shopping bit fairly quickly). I would rather see that then lots of stalls selling cheap tat.
As for not seeing horses, if you go on the final day, after 12 and don't buy a ticket for the show jumping what do you expect?

Well, it's not a horse fair, it's a three day event and you can see horses warming up in the warm-up arena.

well its not a horse fair a horse fair is where cobs go to be bought and traded by gypsys.

It is a serious high level competition and as somebody else said you were lucky to go at all i would og given my right arm if you want action go on xc day or buy the right tickets.

I haven't been going to Badminton for years (though I did go last year) but I do go to other 3DE's and the tradestands are always much the same. There are some good bargains to be found but they tend to be less well-known brands.
TBH I didn't bother much with the shopping at Badminton this year as I went to see horses - which is why I went on saturday and walked round the course

I really don't know what you are complaing about. Badminton is the pinnacle of eventing, if it was football or someother sport you would be paying a hell of a lot more for tickets. And as for the trade stands again I don't know what you are complaing about especially as you say you have been for several years.
I would love to have gone to Badders but when your in fife, scotland and have exams next week you just can't sacrifice the time. I am even going to miss Blenheim this year becasue of uni, however I will be going to Burghley and can't wait.

If you don't like it, the simple answer is don't go

if you had been reporting as a first timer, saying you were disillusioned with it then you would have had sympathy, but complaining about things that never change, and being a Badminton old-timer, well I don't see your point TBH!

like people have said its a huge event and the best of best compete there and have worked damn hard to do so.
Its not about the trade stands and cost of parking you never once mentioned one good point about it and after its run for so many years they must be doing something right.

Then why did you just post three times in a row?

No I don't think it is a rip-off.With how many cars there are too park as well as the event needing to make money, adding the fact the tickets are not as expensive as some of the bigger events- I think it is just right.

my moan was about getting value 4 money , i cant justify paying 10 quid to park can u ???

[/ QUOTE ]

Not for two hours shopping no. But for a whole day, watching the competition - and I went on Saturday so saw pretty much every horse going across country - as well as doing a bit of shopping and meeting some friends I don't think it is that bad. It would cost a lot more than that to park for that length of time in my local town car park.

you are very down-beat for someone who goes EVERY year...

why bother??

and 10 quid to park...not bad really, you'd easily pay twice that much to shop in Bath.

Must say I thought it was quite expensive compared to my tickets last year - but then last year's were FREE courtesy of the lovely H&H prize draw......felt like I was being cheated having to actually PAY to attend this year lol.

10 quid for parking isn't that bad compared to lots of places and the sheer organisation that goes into just stewarding the carparks must be enormous.....

We had really good value for money this year. We went on the Friday, in a car with 4 people (so £2.50 each for parking), saw lots of dressage (sitting in the stands for free) and the warm up, and got lots of bargains, like an english leather hunter double bridle with reins for £40, a pair of breeches for £12, cheap rugs etc.

Have to admit i feel a LOT more ripped off when going to olympia

[/ QUOTE ]

definately - Olympia's a rip off (and the year I went, I didnt even pay for my ticket) - still didnt think it was value for money though

Badminton on the other hand is, and I think if you go for the 4 days then it is good value for money. Something I was meant to do this year but couldn't.
