Fully expected to take Weston Justice there, hadnt had official invite but is usually very late. Now find we are not invited to make way for newer Stallions, so we are a has been already! I wouldnt mind but it is a premier EVENTand we get very little else out of Sports Horse. It is one venue when we see a lot of past and present clients and with a proper stallion parade like the old HIS parade not existing any more it is a lot easier. A really despare of the British Stud books inability to promote its own stock. Have asked for a list of whos going and will let you know!

That really is the pits i dont know what the british breeding lark is coming to.
Well you already know what i think maestro.

Know what you mean my stallion was Champion at the 2000 grading and SHB[GB] could'nt have been more into us he also did his first international and we did a display at the Royal but he has also been ignored. I am not a stud i just happen to have a stallion who is also an exellent breeding prospect . I dont have time to do the Marketing circuit thats what i thought i pay them for. I do think SHB[Gb] have an exellent grading system and all the stallions on the book are fab,but it does make you feela little 'dumped'. I did the Badminton parade in 2003, it was gastly weather but we still went and still did our thing.

that stinks..
then they wonder why people buy abroad, everything done over there to promote the breeding/stallion

hope you write to them and complain,i'd also write to horse and hound's letter page.

your stallion has had a few people on here saying nice things about him so though i haven't seen him i'm sure he will promote himself anyway, good luck.

That's awful! At an event like Badminton, you expect to see the top eventing type stallions there don't you? For older ones it's great if they have runners for the public to see; for younger ones it's interesting to see the different types and weigh them all up; it's their shop window after all. It sounds like Badminton needs to give over more time and space if they are to do it properly; something like 'Meet The Breed' as they do at Crufts; it could be an all day affair where the public could come and actually meet the stallions, not just gawp at them in the ring!
I've always felt the SHB has not been a patch on the old HIS, it's lost its way a lot and is now a money grabbing machine. It's a pity there isn't another national society that could take its place or at least be more accesable and not so dependent on if your face fits but that's just my opinion! (That is no swipe at the Scottish Society, which I believe does a fair job but I did say National!)
You also would have thought that new stallions would be promoting themselves properly and therefore have all the publicity they need, while the older stallions would be backing up the proof that they can produce the goods if that makes sense.

That is so true. My OH & son went to an Sale in Holland. Where 150 horses were on offer. All stabled on site, available to be viewed & presented 2 days before Sales. Fully Vetted & X rayed (Vet on site to discuss any matters) Clean surroundings. Help with hotels & transport. Drinks & refreshments provided all day. Europe has done a good job in making horses into a thriving Industry. In GB we are light years away.
Dont suppose that will go down well with a few people off here, but that is how I see it.

That is ridiculous, WJ is one of very, very few proven eventing stallions and people need to realise we do have decent near full tb stallions to sire eventers!!

I can understand that new stallions need their place but it is the famous/well known ones that everyone goes to look at. You only have to look at the successful eventing breeders to know they are investing in proven stallions for proven mares.

typical - British breeding gets no gov. support; gets hit tax wise compared with the rest of europe and the people in charge seem to take every opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.

ggrrrrrrrrrrr

especially as eventing stallions is an area where the continental factory farmed cruelly reared over produced too young poor horses are nowhere near as good as the UK/Irish produced horses.

what we need is an Alan Sugar for british horse breeding - he'd tell those making a hash of it "you're fired" and start selling coals to newcastle - i.e. get our horses marketed.

Anyone got any 'in' with AS ? British Breeding needs him !!!

(now there's a thought - perhaps a 'task' for the next series of "The Apprentice" could be a task of how to market britsh bred horses !!!

If its makes you feel any better none of my stallions have ever been invited, even the Elite one (I would have thought they'd want the Elite stallions to go). I took it has if it is who you know rather than what you know to get invited but perhaps not.

I completely agree it's a farcical organisation which appears to be a private club! I hate the way it controls hunter showing. it' stops people from having a bash by imposing pointless fees and unknown people from becomg judges by only accepting applications from people already known to two of the current panel. In other words unless you are already a known face you won't get to even apply to be assessed. Really irritating.

Rupert went last year, they didnt bother inviting us this year though, he was dressage champ. at his grading too!
