Birthday Night still isn't up there but they have not mentioned him at all. Forgotten my password to the chat room so can't go in there and check.

Just watching the SJ coverage and they are talking about the ground etc. I think the number that passed the trot up suggest that the ground can't have been that terrible. Also I didn't see many horses finishing looking obviously tired and from what the vet said the ones that did finish did so in a good condition. I actually think I have seen far more tired looking horses and possibly fewer passing the trot up the next day in the years where the ground has been really deep and boggy and hard going for the horses.

Yep deffo. Don't know about you but I thought the ground was absolutely fine, it had a spring and I was really perplexed about what all the fuss was about.

Yep, the ground didn't feel (to me) any harder than it has at say Blenheim in previous years after a hot summer - though I do appreciate that Blenheim is a smaller course.

Again I agree with the OPs about the ground yesterday. Hard yes but still some give in the ground and that wasn't even on the course which had the top soil added and watering around the fences. I was discussing with various people about what injuries the riders were scared of with the hard ground... jarring is a possibility of course but surely things like strained tendons are far more likely jumping and galloping in deep going than on the firm. I know what sort of ground I prefer...

Has eventing got to the stage where so much money is at stake amongst the top level riders - owners/sponsorship/horses etc - that they just can't risk their top horses when they can just run them another day somewhere else. It does seem that if they didn't think they were in with a chance of winning they withdrew. What happened to Badminton being the culmination of a horse's career each year? What happened to its all about the taking part not the winning?

Saw it! Nasty fall, but thankfully he got up quickly and was ok.
