Usually Belton is a good indication of horses which will contest at Badminton and or Championships (in this case Europeans) this year.

The Advanced Special at Belton does indeed hold all the usual horses, ones that competed at Aachen and Badminton last year, with the odd Tom Cruise and Coup de Cour for good measure

However, one name missing..... although hes competing at the event, hes not doing the advanced special. That horse being Tamarillo. Now would this be because of his naughty blip last season at Aachen or because yet again William wil save the horse and only run as and when he feels. IMO i think this is why dear Tam had his problem last year, because he was under prepared!
This is obviously my opinon and might not be at all lol just thought it was interesting, and wondered if anyone had the inside story.

Adv Special start list - click on link the go find Adv Spec

I agree, you can see Tam is a horse that needs masses to occupy his mind, he's a born joker! I'm sure he needs more runs!

Agree Severnmiles, he does need more runs. Hes a cocky little wotsit esp in the dressage and on sjing day. At Aachen that just confirmed it, his mind really wasnt on the job!
The horses that all contested Badminton the same year put up much better performances.

Yep I saw hes entered there and ran there last year, prob due to good ground. But do you not think its funny that hes not doing the Adv Special - the rest of them are.

Its just surprising that Moonman is in Tams place.

Interesting to see Zara isnt there, as shes running at Badminton this year.

So with that in mind, would you pick him for the team! I wouldnt feel very happy if i were one of the other members of the team knowing they have had to do all the events the selectors have told them to do and the likes of Tam havent!
Moonman is known for being a good ODE so can understand that. Ballincoola really has to be WFP team horse now surely?

It'll be his 3rd run of the season when he gets to Belton - is entered for Aldon and Gatcome - both AIs

Perhaps they're just going to play it by ear and see how he goes.

It was Bad 06 when they retired after the dressage wasn't it?

Indeed. Would be good I think mainly for Tams over active brain to get his run at Badders.
I think he needs to be pushed.
His dressage at WEG was terrible! and wasnt much better at Badders times before, more work on this phase methinks...that or he isnt reliable enough for a team place? too many good ones sitting now waiting for their chance.
The likes of Daisy must be very excited when she has 3 GREAT horses all at championship level. Kitty too with Coup de Cour, she surely hopes theres a chance there for her too.

Like with SJing the oldie team members must be worried about their places!

Yep he may do, just wonder why hes not doing the Adv special, i gather this is doing the championship dressage test? i could be wrong. Plus WFP might not be able to run more than 2 in the class, im unsure of the ruling.

Is the champion dressage test used again by anywhere else or is it a one off test.

Just a thought that if it is the same for another event - a horse as quirky & clever as Tam is more than likely to go "sod this, done this test over and over again" and then maybe get a cricket score?

I dont know that much about the AS

Not being an eventer I suppose I shouldn't comment - however that has never stopped me yet

I always look at Tam as a very sensitive horse - he has moments of pure brilliance and obviously his talents are there for all to see, but he CAN and DOES switch off and play up. Now, someone of WFPs professionalism would, I hope, gone through all the motions and the possibilities/probabilities and maybe come up with the fact that too many serious runs, where the competitivness is at a serious high (and therefore Tam can feel that), actually goes against him - better to run him WELL within comfort zone level and let him enjoy himself and then bring him out for only 1 serious run a year?

Like I said, I prob know jack!

It wuldn't bother me I do think he is proven but I do hope he at least completes Badders to prove his form and fitness.

That opens a can of worms though S_J, just because a horse HAS done well doesn't mean they are on form.

I hope he's at Badminton too!

I know where you are coming from but to a certain extent you have to trust the riders and the selectors who see the horses training. We all thought that Toytown had not done enough last year!

I would not be at all surprised if Tamarillo likes to learn his dressage tests off by heart so he knows when the good bits are coming up! So WFP probably likes to spring the 4* test on him out of the blue and hope that he's forgotten it since the year before! William's grandmother (sorry, William my horse, not WFP!) could remeber tests when she came back into work after 3 years off having foals from her heyday!

also think some the u25s too will b aiming for badders ........
dominic ruane ....... and pip peters, well dominic did burghley last year. and pip I work for and there was talk of one of hers going not 100% if thats still the plan

I agree Severnmiles, that the more time tam run (a few years ago now) his results were far better - in actual fact, he was much better when he was having to prove himself - where as now, the general feel is that hes won badminton, claimed silver medals so he doesnt NEED to prove himself.
However, like any performer IMO they should still perform to prove themselves worthy of their place on the team, not on past performances.
Maybe a few years ago Tam and William could get away with it, but now look at the amount of good riders and horses that are all good enough for a team place.

Tigers_eye, why doesnt that suprised me about Wicked Williams relations

did you go BSJA yesterday?
And how was the little guy after his field adventure

Dom will be aiming for Badders as will a few of the other up and coming YR's. I'm up against that lot in the U25s at Belton! Ahh!

I would imagine, and this is only speculation, that he doesnt want to perform the 4* test on him. Tam is an intelligent horse- he obviously anticipates his tests and therefore running through the full 4* A before Badders may do more harm than good.
