So I took Lill to her 2nd ever party today (her first was yesterday!)

I know she isnt a dressage horse but it was good as it was freestyle and just another outing so as I had plaits in from yesterday I left everything in the truck and popped back today!!

I got there and realised that ALL the other horses were proper dressage horses with huge movement and all looked VERY posh and expensive! At that point I didnt really fancy even getting on!!!!

The warm up was very busy which Lill thought was exciting but she was good. I had sorted out my test but then they said we would do it in the 20X60 instead of the 20X40, I thought oh well, we didnt really belong there so Ill just school for 4 mins in front of the judge!! Which, when it was my turn, I did, it was a good experience for her to be able to school like that in a comp enviroment.

I got off feeling a bit glum but then wondered how many of the posh dressage ponies would jump like my girl, not many I think!! Then whilst I was untacking the judge (who was a list 1) stopped and talked to me for ages about Lill and gave me some tips and said she really liked her and thought she would be brilliant with more work/time, so I cheered right up.

I passed the organiser (who had watched the schooling) he said it looked pretty terrible, I agreed, then he said terrible enough to come 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was AMAZED!!!!!!!! I cant believe that little Lill beat some posh dressage ponies!! She almost qualified to go to the champs at Badminton (in a way im soooooooo glad she didnt as if I felt out of place today then it would of been tons worse there!!)

She got a lovely big yellow rosette saying Young dressage horse of the future!!! LOL. So now it looks like we support labour, the torries and the lib dems LOL (from a 1st and 2nd yesterday and 3rd today!)

I cant believe my pony, shes brill and I have decided that Im not going to sell her for now.

Another thing is how much dressage do I have to do with her before I can be in a "racehorses doing dressage clique" LOL Esp as she only finished racing in September!

Here are some pics, they suck a bit though!!

What do you think?!

Vicki :D

Well done VJ we were there and watched you!
I loved your pony and you were very lucky we didn't pinch her!
It was quite funny as we were there with an ex-race and our class was very ordinary then all of a sudden these wow dressage horses appeared from nowhere!
Well done again and now i think you should def sell her.........to me :D

Hello! Was it you that I spoke to when I was walking back to the truck?!

I felt SOOOOOOOOOOO out of place and I thought everyone was giggling (well prob ROFL) at her and I with all the other posh horses. Esp when she was spooky and sharp in the warm up and I just had to mincey trot and canter about till I could put any leg on!!

I kept my chin up thinking I bet they couldnt jump like her, she is OBSESSED about jumping!

The black horse that was lead about won and then that esp gorgeous chestnut mare. It was so cringey for me on my little TB, thank goodness the judge liked her!

We have had our fill of dressage now, its SJ on Tues!!!!!

How did your horse get on??

So pleased she did so well! I have had the same with Crispin believe it or not! LOL! OK about 20 years ago! I went somewhere posh and there were all these bloomin great warmbloods, JLC judging, ( I was ready to go home) and Crispin whooped the lot! Not bad for a little NF x TB with a rubbish rider.

Jacksmum- I am sorry but Lillly will look much prettier in my fields than in yours! :D

I'm the first to jump up and say you DO NOT NEED a big posh warmblood to do well in dressage!! The Welsh Cob's performance yesterday is testament to that too.

You should be damn proud when you go out, you don't look out of place at all, and as your results show...you belong there! Good Job!!

Well done! She looks lovely & every bit the dressage horse.

I think you should definatley join us in the 'ex-racers doing dressage' clique.

She deffo looked much less like a dressage horse than all the other dressage horses!!!!

And wow Im so excited about being in a clique!!!!! Who else is in it?! Although I have no idea how to put it under my signature! I might change my sig so that Lillpops has a proper pic in it too!!!

I was there yesterday (it was me you spoke to walking back to the lorry) and my friend and I watched your test, and both really loved your horse! You were lucky we didnt have space in our lorry ;-)
Good luck, I think you have a super horse, and a bright future ahead! x

Yeah I hope so. It will only be baby stuff this season esp as my other mare is due in June so that will take up a lot of time.

Her SJ is really coming along and took her XC for the first time at easter and she loved it and jumped everything up to about 2'9 first time.

She even practices at home when I'm not on her by jumping out of her field and occasionally the school (which has very high post and rail fences!)

Im in the clique :) :D welcome!!!! :D

your little horse is stunning, I think you look very posh!! I do BD on my ex racer in a close contact jump saddle so imagine how I feel about being out of place lol!! A lot of the finer warmbloods are mostly TB anyway, that's what I tell myself!!

She's def a keeper btw. I only took my racer on loan by a month by month basis as a fun project but he's such a great horse I'm hoping he'll b with me 4ever now!!

:) :)

That's so nice of you to say. We felt so out place there esp as most of the other horses were really established on the flat and lilly isn't at all. I thought everyone watching was laughing at us.

I was umming and arrrring about selling her but I think after this weekend that she will stay. So much for buying her to sell on!

I brought my ex racer 18months ago, thinking I would sell her on - but there is no chance of that now as I love her to bits - so be warned Lilly could well be staying with you lol! (Unless Jacksmum finds out where you live!)
You have a lovely horse, and should be really proud of what you acheived yesterday, the standard was high and you came third - so I hope your still grinning!!!

Massive well done, & i think it's a shame you didnt qualify. If i where you i would be getting myself to the next qualifier:).

I really don't get why people would think any less of you or laugh at you & your horse because it's a TB when im competing i don't give a fig what breed or type is competing.

I started doing dressage with my Ex-racer over 15 years ago & have never once had anyone think any less of us. In fact it used to be quite the opposite i used to get oh no there here:D. Meaning oh **** there going to win again:D:D. So please people don't get caught up in the WB thing, TB's are plenty capable.
Ok i have a WB now my TB is 25yo & retired now but to be quite honest the WB been the hardest horse ive ever owned to work with & ive had some terrible times in the dressage arena with him. Far more than i ever had with my TB or IDxTB.

Thanks Dressagecrazy and Dontgetoff!!

I am still very proud of her, we went out for a nice relaxing power walk today!

I dont think she goes well enough really to go to another qualifier as she has only been working properly since Feb and all of the other 5 year olds looked very established. Also the other qualifiers were at super busy venues which might make her brain fall out (although in fairness the warm up was busy yesterday!)

It has spured me on to go out to do some more dressage though, although it also spured me on to go out SJ tomorrow and XC schooling on Sat, dont want to miss out on too much jumping with all this dressage!!!

:)
