Badminton

Badminton was just as wet 2 years ago & it ran. They did take some fences out on the XC though. The staff do a great job working on the ground whether its wet or dry. Badminton is certainly on the best ground in this area.

I think the main problem though is public car parks and getting people in and out. Everybody will have an opinion on whether it should go ahead but the organisers are the only ones who have all the facts and they will make the best decision.

It wasn't as wet as this. I heard on Radio 2 that this looks like being the wettest April since 1766. That's not a typo. Seventeen sixty six... ;) ;) ;)
They've restricted all vehicles to hard roads, banned all course walks for this weekend, and have the advantage that it's pretty flat so emergency vehicles should still be able to access everywhere (always the prime consideration).
Just have to pray for dry windy days next week... it has been cancelled before, and it's run when very very wet (the year Ginny Leng had that horrible fall on Houdini when he slipped) and it doesn't make for good P.R., to put it bluntly...
The Organisers do not have the final decision on whether to run. At National events B.E. has the final decision, for an F.E.I. event I guess the F.E.I. officials do...

Sounds like the Duke isn't keen either, and I'm sure he has some say, being as it's on his property!!
I'm beginning to prefer the idea of a trip to the local tack store on sat with the money I had put away, and a day infront of the red button with some quality food and plenty of Pimms for sunday!!

I was planning on going on XC day, but beginning to rethink this - for one thing, I dread to think what the car park will be like to get in and out with my Fiat!

I am almost tempted to save myself the money and watch it on the red button like the person above me if it does go ahead!

Just watched the Countryfile weather for the week. Heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning (it's clear here now but is going to change), warm and sunny tomorrow afternoon, then heavy rain coming in again overnight into tuesday, which has a yellow weather warning, then heavy rain again wed night into thursday morning. That forecast is not great and certainly not the dry sunny days that were being forecast on friday.

The other thing I have an issue with is worms, I have a worm phobia and the place is going to be crawling with them, not sure I can handle that to be honest!!

It's another damned if you do, damned if you don't situation isn't it?

IF they cancel now (ie early this week) -everyone has booked time off work, accommodation, most of the tradestands are there/partly set up I guess and the horses are probably on their way - then they have to refund everything (camping/tickets) plus they will get SO many complaints from people who have booked other accommodation and I expect from the hoteliers too.....if people haven't paid & don't turn up then they lose out too. We've booked a cottage which we had to take for the week, which is fine, but we had invited friends down too for Badminton so they were going to pay for their part of the stay - meaning it was affordable for us! So if there's no Badminton, they won't come and we'll have a cottage for a week for no reason.....I know not everyone has this situation, but there will be lots of people with a random weekend in the Cotswolds!!

If they run, then there will inevitable be issues with parking/tradestand areas - two years ago, as others have said, it was wet on XC day. I remember one tradestand owner being in tears as a very expensive rug had fallen into to mud & got wrecked - it must be heartbreaking for some of them, especially if they're smaller exhibitors who take so much pride in their stands (not saying the bigger ones don't, just saying that the smaller ones usually make the stuff so it's more personal). There may also be course issues, the xc will cut up inevitably but imagine the dressage arena?! Plus, if that gets mullered during two days of dressage where do they SJ?

So....I think they'll run, they've gott too much to lose if they don't. They can always cancel part way through.....then they still get their cash & less people complain as they've had some entertainment.....

Sorry for the essay!

*toddles off to find wellies/waterproofs/every item of clothing/umbrella/hat*

PS - blame my OH for the weather, he bought a picnic blanket "for Badminton"........

The BYEH class has definatly been cancelled as per a phone call to tell us this morning and they said they were contemplating cancelling the grass roots but nothing about the 4* was mentioned

Tbh its a pain toosr money, but the horses welfare must come first.
My hotel has free cancellation til 3rd so hopefully they'll have decided by then.

EVENT SADLY CANCELLED
The recent exceptional rainfall has left the ground at Badminton totally waterlogged and partially flooded. Further rain is due this week leaving no chance of the ground drying out. Very sadly therefore the 2012 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials has been cancelled.

Purchasers of advance tickets, exhibitors, Sponsors and riders will of course be refunded as soon as is practical.

Please pass on to as many people as you. Thank you!

Just seen that too on Facebook. They have made the right decision as we have had so much rain, would of been too dangerous. Oh well, looking
forward to 2013 then! And I might have to enter that dressage comp I'd put off!

really gutted but it was of course the right decision :(

and to think last year it was really hot on course, bring on next year!
