badminton

I'm so excited about going this year, especially as I had tickets last year, then it got cancelled. I've got tickets for Thurs so I'm hoping I can walk the cross country course (does anyone know if I can on that day ?) and have a wander round the trade stands. I've seen from another post that the Beaufort hunt who are based there have the EHV so I'm hoping that it's alll gone by the time Badminton arrives. Not sure on anything else, but have a good time when you go.

Emm I'm pretty sure you can walk the course on the thursday. We were the same with tickets last year and then it getting cancelled. Really looking forward to it this year, we're going on the cross country day (think that's the sunday, can't remember now!) Hope everyone has fun whichever day they go on :)

Did make me laugh though - I know that threads on here can veer off topic but from Badminton to root canals and pay day loans in one reply must be a record. Stupid woman. (I assume woman).

Thought it was somebody having a predictive text problem at first! Also reported - can HHO actually ban an IP address? Would stop trolls re-registering under another name!

I also had tickets for last year. We had also booked a hotel room - they wouldn't give us a refund but said we could swap to another day. So we thought we'd go to Gatcombe and use the hotel room then...then Gatcombe got cancelled! Last year was not a good year for going to events

Badminton stables have the top expert in equine viruses on site to manage the situation. They have basically brought up the area's entire stock of Virkon. They have EHV-1 paralytic on the yard. There is also an outbreak of strangles on a yard in Chipping Sodbury which is being correctly managed, and a horse from that yard has confirmed EHV-2, although it is presently being treated at Bushy Equine.
A lot of horses are feeling the effects of a long hard winter, hopefully when the grass finally starts to grow, these bugs will sod off!
As for how Badminton is looking, quintessentially Cotswold!

Expert in Equine Virus diagnosed my mare with EHV-1, turned out my neighbour gave her rat poison instead
Really hope badders goes ahead this year, EHV-1 is a pain in the *** to contain!

Kateandchips,

Thanks for the info on walking the x-country course on Thurs. Have a good time watching the cross country. My tickets came this morning and I only ordered them the day before yesterday, impressive. Roll on May.

I'm amazed there isn't more concern about he EHV 1 virus, as the strain circulating is the paralytic type which is usually fatal.
The BD forum is hot with debate right now as the winter championships are at Hartpury in a couple of weeks. Some have cancelled already as its so infectious :(

Em no worries. Some friends went for the whole weekend a couple of years ago and said they saw some of the riders walking the course as well :)

I hadn't heard about all these viruses, I hope it isn't cancelled again. They must have lost so much money from having to cancell last year :/

I totally agree millimoo; I live not a million miles from there and have pulled out of Calmsden's unaffiliated ODE on 5th April as I believe the risk is too great to take. I am very concerned!

Slightly irritated by the EHV comments on here. The paralytic strain is not 'usually fatal'.

Well I stand to be corrected Tyson... Not trying to irritate anyone, however I'd be more than a little irritated if my horse caught EHV1 through contact via another horse who caught it out competing - wasn't the point if my post though.
