Can anyone offer any ideas to help explain this one?

My horses have recently been moved to a new field where they now have a water bucket- they had running water from a stream before.
Over the last couple of weeks there has been tiny bits of ripped up ham and bread in the water ! It is there every single day and nobody can figure it out . There has been chicken and ham as far as we can tell, other squishy meat-looking substances and usually small bits of bread. - the only explanation we can come up with is that a bird is dropping it in, but every day? and why is it having sandwiches every day!? And why is it dropping it !

Bit of a weird one, but is there a particular species that likes to deposit its lunch in horse's water buckets :p ?

I had that some time ago, plus bits of other meat. I discovered a girl feeding them her sandwiches. Otherwise it could be birds dropping bits.

There are a lot of ducks yes so that is a possibility- although they rarely come that far down the field, they tend to sit on the stream further up or the pond across the road.

There are walkers that go by the fields too- I didn't actually think of that as the bits were so small I assumed it wasn't human related (although obviously the sandwiches are coming from somewhere!)

Yes, the woman I rent my land off sometimes gives mine the left overs of Sunday lunch, meat, veg and all! I'm not actually sure if horses can digest the meat? Maybe some polite signs on the fences about not feeding the horses are required!
