So was lungeing friends pony last night for him. Pony was fine on right rein - I am one of those people that can spot lameness a mile off, and he was sound.

Swap to left rein and he goes about 5/10ths lame in inside fore.

Swap back and he is sound.

Swap back and lame again.

I am completely baffled? I have felt down his back and he has no sensitivity, looked at his legs and nothing noticeable and no heat?

I am confused..surely if it was a muscle it would be lame both ways?

Help?

navicular?

just a suggestion/idea.

there seems to be a lot of it about at the moment

that's how my old boy started along with intermittent lameness on one side at the front.

5/10ths is actually really quite lame so it seems very odd he would be fine one way and that lame a different way. What was he like on a straight line?
Sometimes bruising or start of an abcess in a specific area of the foot does mean that the show lame on one rein far more than the other due to where they actually put most weight on the foot when they land.

my mare is sometimes lame on the lunge on the left rein, she suffers from a degeneration in her left fetlock joint , there is never any heat in her leg and after a lot of investigation (nerve blocks and x rays) we discovered this is what it was.
She is not very lame but you can see it if you look for it.
Is the pony like this when being ridden on the left rein?

What's he like trotted up on a hard surface in a straight line? I have one who was 1/10th lame on the straight, but quite lame on a circle. No obvious heat/swelling/reaction to flexion test/pain in foot. Back checked and fine. Nerve blocks and xrays show arthritis in coffin joint which has now been injected.

My horse is 1/10 on straight - 3 or 4/10 on circle. Could be possible something like check ligament (tho prob not! don't want to worry you!) which would show when poorly leg was on inside of circle.

My mare is lame both reins on circle now - scan showed arthritis in coffin joints. Meltdown - my horse is having cortisone/HA jabs into the joints tomorrow - how did your horse get on after those? Are they sound?
